Protesting workers block entrance and exit of an electronic factory

Protesting workers pitched tents and blocked the entrance and exit to a Japanese-owned electronic factory in Prachin Buri’s 304 industrial estate on Wednesday.

The workers of Yano Electronics Company have been rallying in front of the company’s factory and inside the compound since Tuesday to demand more bonus, increased cost of living allowance and other fringe benefits.

The demands include three-month bonus; 3,000 baht travelling expense for the workers to return home during festive season; 500 baht cost of living allowance from 292 baht; and “diligent” fee amounting to 700,800 and 900 baht.

The protesting workers, numbering about 400 on Wednesday, sealed the entrance and exit of the factory to prevent their Japanese executives from leaving.

Mr Sompong Kloyklaew, a labour protection official based in Prachin Buri, said seven representatives of the protesters met the Japanese management for talks on Wednesday, but there was no solution yet.

Talks between the two sides are expected to resume on Thursday.

^Nope. Wouldn't surprise me if they weren't being 'organized' by a Thai competitor company, either.

lets hope the japs just close the place down, relocate to vietnam and tell the "workers" to fuck off back home to resume getting drunk and beating their womenfolk.

^ I agree with Tax (not often we agree on anything 55..)

Usually, I would side with the little fellow..I'm all for workers rights and shit...

but on consideration, yeah.. they are just trying it on - knowing the Japanese are more 'soft' easy-going, than the Thai management...*taking the piss, in other words...

The bulk of my client base (matchmaking) when I was in Rangsit, came from all the factories: Bang-pa-in, down from Ayutthaya (อยุธยา) to future park...

They would tell me the Japanese boss "Jai dee" (good heart and generous pay/benefits) much kinder than the competition with Thai management.
I swear, I am not telling porkies to embellish my love affair with all things Japanese, it's the truth lol..

If they bite the hand that feeds them, the Japanese are likely to up sticks and move to another region, where the labor force - is not so uppity and demanding.

There's something acutely Thai about a bunch of chickenheads withdrawing their labour in order to extract a "diligent" fee.

I've been in several japanese factories in Thailand and in every case the Japanese management have been arrogant, racist scumbags. They consider the Thais (and, to be honest, everybody else) to be subhuman. They operate apartheid systems in their factories, seperate toilets, canteens, etc for the sons of Nippon, in case they get contaminated by lesser races. Somewhat similar, I imagine, to Taxexile's domestic arrangements.

Fuck the Nips, they're looking for slaves - not staff. Good on the Thais for giving them the finger.

BTW, I often hear Brits whinging about how badly the buck-toothed banzai brigade treated their lads at Kanchababuri and to be fair Tojo was not a very nice chap. But, a bit of context here, the number of British deaths was pretty high at 6,000 but the number of Thais, Malays, and Tamils killed was in the region of 200,000. The japs, of course, have never apologised for this. Frankly, the Japanese should stop whinging about having to pay their former victims a living wage and count themselves lucky they're not hanged on sight.

Quite right, Bob. I always thought the people of Swindon were nothing more than cock suckers and arse lickers of the sons of Nippon. Better the good folk of Wiltshire should fuck the slitty-eyed panheads in the arse and burn down their altars to Mammon.

3,000 baht travelling expense for the workers to return home during festive season
is this by chauffeur driven mercedes?

    they are taking the piss.

if they are unhappy with their work, they should leave and find something more to their liking.
its not too hard to find work in thailand, whats the unemployment rate these days? about 2% max i would guess. we all know thai workers at that level come and go as they please

the japanese treat their workers well and provide decent working conditions and facilities.
this dispute will have been encouraged by aggressive unions and/or outside influences as another member suggested and workers that dont tow the union line could come in for harsh treatment by union minders.

more power to the bosses, brave enough to risk their investment in this undisciplined third world backwater.

The amusing irony of it all is that Tooting is now 100% wog from wobble-head land. Diwali and pan and not a hint of Xmas. Crying shame really but I suppose the silver lining is that all the Jamaican dross no longer use it as a mugger-fest.

i like the japs, i worked with japanese on my first visit to thailand in the eighties, they were opening factories here and on a delayed and extended backpacking break from dentistry i ended up teaching english to japanese management types here in bangkok, also to their wives and kids as my contacts expanded. i stayed for nearly three years and found them to be intelligent, inquisitive, punctual, open minded and fun loving. they never wasted a minute of their time and they wanted to know as much about life in the west as i did about life in the east, they were very good to me, they took me into their homes, i socialised with them and their families and was royally entertained by the businessmen.

their worldwide investment strategy has helped many faltering economies and more power to them.

and when a bunch of ten baht thai toerags raise the finger to them, they should be careful what they wish for.

    diligence bonus my arse.

Indeed, scratch a panhead and you'll find a sadistic, evil, unfeeling psychopathic crazy mother fucker who likes to watch adolescent girls wearing school uniforms peeing.
Weird fuckers - remember the Nip who was revealed to have sired so may kiddies in and around Bangkok with Thai women so he could fuck them as they grew up.

Truly, no greater a fucked up people stalk the earth.

Frankly, when I see a panhead I fully expect them to peel back their faces to reveal some alien mutant life form with unblinking eye pods.

No surprise that Tax empathises with them, he's a dentist and therefore bound to be attracted by the macabre and other-worldly.

They may well do so. Less so because of the protests but more about the BOI push to drive out medium sized busnisses out of the Prachin BOI. My son in law is the production manager for a small Swiss company (400 employees) near the factory in the OP. BOI officials have visited them several times demanding a change to the agreement which would result in a big tax increase for the company. Reason BOI gave for change was they wanted bigger companies to move in.

Owner of the company refused to make changes and said he would shut down and move to VN if BOI continued with their BS. Also told them he would be happy to have all 400 employees gather so the BOI could explain why the factory was shutting down. BOI has not been back since.

The rationale is not comprehensible, logical or even plausible. How on earth would it pave the way for a major investor to locate to Thailand if a SME was forced out? And what tax increases could be levied to orchestrate that? But if the aim was indeed to coerce that small operator to quit then how could a threat to quit by that operator be a lever to desist?

The explanation is really quite implausible.

    I'm torn.
On the one hand the workers demands do seem OTT and there is a chance that they were quite happy but have been agitated by some 3rd party.
On the other hand, where would we be without honest unionism? (Distinct from corrupt, agenda-driven unionism).

Need to hear the Japanese company side of it. Are they whip-cracking slave drivers (such as at Thai seafood plants), or are they being taken to the cleaners?

Idiotic reason but that's what the BOI claimed. No doubt some convoluted Thai logic at play.

Err, Tax, the Nips slaughtered over 6 millions in their weird war of expansion from the mid 1930s until 1945. Now, the Nazis did the same but at least they had some cultural imperative driving their doctrinal based genocides whereas the Nips just seemed to do it out of cruelty and a bizarre belief that to kill an awful lot of people would act as a message that to not cooperate would result in them being ....well....slaughtered. When Singapore was subjugated by the little yellow- bellied, slant eyed crazy fuckers they proceeded to shoot and bayonet up to 50,000 Chinks for no earthly reason other than to create an impression.

They are truly a race apart. Cruel and quite insane which explains the rigidity of their fucked-up society since a release of emotions invariably results in fucking genocide, torture and bestial atrocities.

the jap army believed it was the divine embodiment of the emperors will. they were descended from gods and put on the earth to subjugate lesser peoples, and in their desperation due to economic hardship, their being unable to feed themselves in the early part of the 20th century, and their belief that the world was conspiring against them, they embarked upon aggressive expansion with all that that entailed.
surrender was out of the question and prisoners caught alive and civilians were despised and treated accordingly.

their view of others was much the same as that held by radical islamists today, they are filthy, inferior, unworthy, fitvonly to de despised and cruelly treated.

times have moved on now, the japanese are not as isolated as they were and their culture has, for the most part rid itself of those extreme values.

no need to fear or hate them.

the russkies and the chinese would be much worse as invaders.
