Will you go back to Khon Kaen?

3 1/2 days each way on the bus sounds about right for New Year.

^^ It was a joke based on the crowded roads at New Year as 50% of Bangkok heads back to Isaan and the North.

New Year and Songkran. Avoid the roads at all cost. Bring supplies for a 12 day voyage, if you must. Also make sure that your Life Assurance policy is up to date.

    Yes.

Personally I book ahead, get an Air Asia seat for 700 baht or whatever.

Too late now. It's 2,000 baht each way Don Muang to Khon Kaen.

But if you book now for New Year 2017/18 it's 1,700 baht return.

Saves God only knows how many hours in a crammed bus averages 0kph.

I remember having the whole Expressway to myself a few years ago, driving around Bangkok during Songkraan.

A bit surreal tbh, only time I've ever enjoyed driving in the capital.

Yeah, it's great. We hardly ever leave during New Year nowadays. Amazing to have the roads and the city so quiet, peaceful and sane.

This time falling on a Saturday and a Sunday.
Isn't it normal that when a holiday falls on the weekend that a weekday or two are made into the holiday?
Sounds like they are just trying to sound like nice guys when in fact all they've declared is what is normal.
