TRANG, 26 October 2016 (NNT) –The Trang Port-In and Port-Out Controlling Center (PIPO) has arranged a rescue operation to enable a German tourist yacht, to be led to a safe haven by a nearby fishing boat.
Trang PIPO coordinated with the local fishing boat to rescue passengers on board the German tourist yacht experiencing an engine malfunction, on the evening of 24th October 2016 near Ko Lao Liang South Island.
The center received a communication from the Thai Red Cross community rescue unit and the Department of Fisheries' patrol ship that a German yacht "Nuku Afola" was struggling with an engine malfunction while traveling back from Ko Lipe and Ko Langkawi islands.
The center then used the VMS tracking system to find nearby vessels in the area, and issued a request for Thanomchon 8 fishing boat which was close, to head to the site of the incident to tow the yacht to a pier in Kantrang District.
Trang Tourism Authority of Thailand, offered bouquets to the yacht's passengers following the incident, and assigned related agencies in the area to provide safety protection and transportation.
The yacht is now waiting to be repaired by a team of mechanics from a dock in Krabi.
