Malaysia's Islamic airline Rayani Air barred from flying

Malaysia's first Islamic-compliant airline, Rayani Air, has been barred from flying for breaching regulations.
The Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) said it was revoking the airline's certification because of concerns over its safety audit and administration.
Rayani Air launched last December offering only halal food, no alcohol and crew wearing modest clothing.
It has two Boeing 737-400 planes in its fleet, each able to carry about 180 passengers, eight pilots and 50 crew.

Non-Muslim staff were required to "dress decently" while Muslim female staff wore hijabs
The DCA said on Monday that Rayani Air could no longer operate as a commercial airline.
It follows a three month suspension after the airline failed to follow flight regulations. A safety audit was later conducted to assess its operations.

Malaysia's aviation commission said in a statement that the airline "had breached the conditions of its Air Service Licence (ASL) and lacks the financial and management capacity to continue operating as a commercial airline".
The DCA said it had conducted a "thorough deliberation" on the airline's response to the safety audit.

In the lead up to its suspension, the airline had faced criticism including complaints about cancelled flights as pilots went on strike.
Based on the island of Langkawi, Rayani Air had been flying to the capital, Kuala Lumpur, and the northern city of Kota Bahru.
It had plans to fly to more Malaysian cities and eventually schedule flights to Mecca for the Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages, reports said.

    Inshahallah.

8 pilots I can understand for two planes. May be regs as to how many flights one can do. But 8 could be overkill.
But 50 crew for such short haul flights? It's no wonder they burst their budget.

I'll happily stand corrected on the logistics, as I have no idea.....it just seems a lot of hostesses for 2 aircraft on short journeys.

It's pretty rare to hear of subservient Muslim females protesting against male dominated management.

What were the hostesses protesting about?

No room in the aisles for prayers?

You're right, I got info mixed up.

The trolley dollies were involved in a takeover bid.

Rayani Air founder blasts employees planning takeover.

KUALA LUMPUR: The chief executive officer of troubled Rayani Air has fired back at staff who announced plans to wrest control of the company from him, suggesting that they "start their own airline if they are so smart".

However, Ravi Alagendrran , who has been accused of not paying his 400 staff their salary as well as their Socso and Employer's Provident Fund (EPF) contributions, ensured that his workers would get their money, claiming he was finalising a deal with an investor to sell a 51% share in the airline.

"Yes, I will pay them. I have investors. Look at them (the staff), you think they can bring in investors?

"They are following their emotions like children," Ravi told The Star in a phone interview, adding that he was planning to retrench half the workforce to make the company leaner.

"I am going to throw away all these people," a livid Ravi added.

He blamed his staff's strike for driving away investors and putting the airline in a financial lurch.

On Friday, staff from Rayani Air's operations and engineering division announced that they were in talks with several investors to buy majority shares in the airline from Ravi, saying that they did not want the CEO helming the company.

They also threatened legal action against Ravi if their salaries for March and their Socso and EPF contributions were not paid.

The protest was led by Rayani Air's KLIA 2 station manager Zulkalnain Azdan, who also accused Ravi of having no aviation experience and for making racist remarks against the staff.

In response, Ravi claimed that the station manager was originally hired as a cleaner for his planes, but he had been forced to promote Zulkalnain to station manager by staff over supposed racial reasons.

The Transport Ministry slapped Rayani with a provisional suspension notice for contravening conditions of its Air Operators Certificate (AOC) earlier this month.

This comes after airline announced that it would suspend operations effective immediately as part of the company's restructuring plan.

Cannot imagine why they'd be emotional?
