Moo Ham's Dad Jailed On Meth Conviction

The Criminal Court sentenced a high-profile businessman and socialite to prison this morning after he was busted with a tiny amount of crystal meth.

Real estate magnate Kananek Patchimsawat, 65, was sentenced to 5 years and 6 months in prison with a fine of THB400,000 on charges of possessing and using Category 1 drugs.

However, because he confessed, his punishment was commuted to 2 years and 9 months in jail and a fine of THB200,000. He was not given probation....

Sadly there's always the fine print buried in the middle of these stories, he will probably get bail soon. Usually only the poor have to appeal their convictions, if they can at all, from inside prison.

"Kananek's family has offered a land title worth THB700,000 as bail, which is currently being considered by the court.
Kananek will also appeal the case, Nation TV reported."

^Not so sure. I think this guy has pissed off someone high up, and has been set up.
Sixty five yo business owners here do not do "ice" or other party drugs. And if they ever did, would never normally go to jail for it.
Military are using the Article 44 to jail, detain, and "disappear" opponents now. Has been a purging of the Thai police ranks already, and continuing into not just political opponents and critics but competing businesses also.

I hope you are right. Personally could not care less about the drugs, but if I had done what his son did my father would not have protected me, he would have been the first to point me towards jail.
