As the Meteorological Department warned the people in the northern, northeastern and central provinces of possible summer storms until May 6, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation revealed today that more than 10,000 homes have been damaged by summer storms since April.

It said over 10,000 houses in 112 districts of 30 provinces in the North, Northeast and East have been damaged so far by summer and hail storms.

Of the 30 provinces ravaged by storms, 18 provinces are in the Northeast.

The department has given 3,000 baht as initial assistance for each family affected, and 33,00O baht for house completely damaged.

Meanwhile the Meteorological Department chief Wanchai Sak-udomchai said summer storms and hail storms would continue to ravage the North, Northeast, East and Central until today due to the existing heat covering the upper region of the country.

But summer heat will continue to blanket the upper region until May 6 when summer storms will slowly decrease, he said.

Meanwhile the Ministry of Public Health reported six hospitals in four provinces have been damaged by the summer storms.

They are in Bung Kan, Nakhon Sawan, Sakhon Nakhon and Prachaup Khiri Khan.

There was no injuries or deaths and these hospitals can still operate as usual.
