Two domestically built ‘Lightning’ warships, M5 and M6, were launched in Ho Chi Minh City on Thursday after over 30 months of building, Tuoi Tre News reported, citing military news website Quan Doi Nhan Dan (People’s Army).
The launching ceremony was held at Ba Son Corporation in the southern metropolis and was attended by Dinh La Thang, the city’s Party chief, and Gen Truong Quang Khanh, Deputy Minister of Defence.
The M5 and M6 are the most advanced versions of versatile missile-carrying fast-attack warships of the “Lightning” series built by Ba Son to timely provide equipment for the Vietnam People’s Navy to use if there is modern warfare, contributing to safeguarding the country’s maritime sovereignty.
The building of the warships was finished eight months earlier than scheduled, marking a new milestone in the development of modern battleship building techniques of Ba Son Corporation.
