KHON KAEN, 16 April 2016 (NNT) – The northeastern province of Khon Kaen has set a new record of alcohol-free human waves with over 61,000 participants, according to Ripley’s Believe It or Not branch in Pattaya.
A total of 61,725 Songkran revelers gathered on Khao Neao Road in Khon Kaen city to create the human waves at around 7 p.m. on Friday. Three rounds of human waves were created with the participants jumping from the ground with hands raised high and sitting down immediately.
That number of people covering a one-kilometer-long strip on the road, compared to an earlier record, also set by Khon Kaen people in 2011, which involved 50,208 Songkran revelers.
Theerasak Theekayuphan, mayor of Khon Kaen City municipality, said 110,184 people celebrated the water-splashing festival on Friday. He earlier estimated that they might not break the record five years ago due to limits in water splashing in the wake of a severe drought. A total of 323,099 people entertained themselves during the three-day festival ending on Friday
