Bt319 million approved to help debt-ridden teachers

The Education Ministry's Committee for Teachers and Educational Personnel had approved a Bt319 million fund to help 1,900 teachers got rid of their off-system debts, said Deputy Education Minister Varakorn Samkoses Thursday.

The committee had on Wednesday approved the revolving fund, which had been established since 1997 to promote debt relief for government schoolteachers and had received state funding worth Bt1.2 billion in the past decade, to let low-interest loans worth Bt319 million to 1,900 debt-ridden teachers, he said. Each could borrow up to Bt150,000, he added.
