Bus driver charged with attempted rape

A bus driver has been arrested and charged with attempted rape on Friday of a teenager on board a bus near Phutthamonthon Sai 2 road. Police charged and detained Chairat Klingchanhom, 34, for questioning.

He was the driver of the No. 19 bus operated by a private bus concession between Taling Chan and Thewet.

The 17-year-old girl was found in a state of shock when police arrived at the scene.

Police said she took the bus from Central department store in Pin Klao on her way home in Phutthamonthon Sai 2 road. She was seated three seats behind the driver.

The bus driver is accused of attempting to rape the teenager as the bus was approaching its final stop. The conductor had already left the vehicle, leaving the girl as the sole passenger on the bus, police said.

The driver allegedly pulled the bus over and closed the automatic doors before trying to rape the girl.

She fought back and screamed for help, police said. A patrolman who was passing by came to her rescue.

According to police, the driver confessed to the crime.
He was charged with committing lewd acts and attempted rape.
