PHUKET: Taxi drivers in Karon have said they “will not allow” the planned new airport bus service to take their jobs, saying they “guarantee” protests if the buses start running.

Think what a grand improvement a shuttle buss would make. Ask a thousand returning tourists which they would prefer, taxi or shuttle. Do they think they can gouge till the end of time? Up-coming is the murdering of buss drivers.

Operation of a bus service will improve the lives of so many tourists it seems? Chugging along at an incredible speed of 30 KPH stopping at designated stops only. can't see this infringing on the Taxi group whatsoever.

they protest TESCO as well but every day a new shop opens to claim dominance over the mom and pop shops throughout Thailand.

Better to spend money on a Phuket BTS system than a bus service on grid locked highways. Poor city management has almost stopped all through traffic on the island now. On my latest trip North I noticed more and more Thai's taking to their cities streets on bicycles abandoning their cars and motorci's due to congestion or gas prices. Perhaps Phuket needs bicycle lanes and rentals at the airport?

The further the distance from Bangkok, the more lawless things get.

It's easy not to have a lot of sympathy for taxi drivers in Phuket, with their track record of reckless driving, screwing over tourists, cockblocking competitors...oh, and rape. Fuck em. I have about as much sympathy for them as I have the Taliban.

In my years on this planet I have come to the opinion that there are 2 professions that seem to attract an inordinate amount of scumbags: Taxi drivers and butchers.

There are a few gems but they seem to be few and far between.
