Pattaya - drunken Thai women climbs Foodlands 15 meter high sign

    Drunken Woman Stuck Above Foodland

At 11.30 pm on 19th April, Wan Lai Pattaya’s Songkran day, people were still splashing water at each other and celebrating all over the city.

However, other than all the fun, Pattaya Police Chief, Pol. Col. Sutin Sappuang received a report that a drunken woman, aged around 25, had climbed up the 15 metre high sign at the Foodland Supermarket on Central Pattaya Road. A Mr. Yohan, who is retired from the German army and now living in Thailand, climbed up to rescue her because it looked like in the drunken state that she was in she could have fallen down at any time. The Sawang Rescuers were quickly at the scene getting prepared to assist the man because he was getting rather exhausted.
The rescuers secured the safety belt for Mr. Yohan to help the woman and very soon both came down safely. The woman was immediately taken to the hospital for a checkup.
Everyone was relieved that it turned out well and Pattaya Police Chief Sutin thanked Mr. Yohan for helping because if it weren’t for him, who knows what could have happened?

German comes to the rescue as Woman threatens to Jump from Foodland sign.

A bizarre incident now from Foodland in Central Pattaya. Police Colonel Sutin, the Chief of Pattaya Police along with fire rescue workers responded to a call received from staff at Foodland who reported a crazed female who had climbed a 30ft high sign at the front of the Supermarket and was threatening to jump. Disregarding his own safety a German man, Mr. Yohan also climbed the sign and held the woman down until rescuers arrived. He was commended for his actions by the Chief of Police. The disturbed woman who was later found to be the former wife of a Security Guard working at Foodland was safely brought down and transported to Hospital. It appears that she had gone to the Supermarket on Wednesday Night in an attempt to restart her previously failed relationship with the Guard. Attempts at reconciliation failed leading the woman to commit this desperate act. She is now under the care of doctors at Banglamung Hospital who are currently accessing her mental state.

Why did PCN lop a third off the height of the sign for the purpose of this report, and was the lady made to pay for the nuisance she caused, or is being drunk a fair enough reason to kill yourself and compromise others?

After careful analysis of the evidence before me Inspector Thetyim concludes that the sign is 15 metres tall and that the woman climbed up to a height of 30 foot. This would insure that she was fully lit by the floodlights and hence rescued quicker.
