Emergency services find fisherman beyond help after quayside
Baan Saray, (South of Pattaya): Drunken sailors ended up in a brawl with one being murdered on the Harbour on Tuesday
The long and well sharpened knives used by fishermen to gut their haul, proved equally deadly for one unidentified man who died at the Quayside South of Pattaya this week
Medical services established that the attack had been a frenzied one and the man stabbed at least ten times, but he was already beyond medical help when Police and ambulance teams arrived at the scene.
The dead man, surrounded by a crowd which quickly dispersed when the police arrived, is thought to be approx. 40 years old and, in all probability, an illegal immigrant from Cambodia. Witnesses described how he and others were fully drunk on cheap liquor when the argument broke out that led to the fight. It is thought that the dead man had been more than a little outspoken to his sailing chums and whatever he said, drove them to slash his face and body.
Once stabbed, he tried to flee the scene himself but his injuries prevented him from leaving the pier area and his body was found close to where the fight took place. The other sailors, meanwhile, hastened a quick getaway in their boat.
Illegal immigrants in Thailand, especially in the fishing industry, often come from Cambodia where the fishing is less rewarding than Thai waters and the Thai navy , along with boat patrols, are expected to catch the killers soon as the local waters are monitored from the main Naval stations in the area.
