    For your information.

I just received my umpteenth annual work permit and note that the forms to be filled out and the new basic requirements have changed quite a bit as of this year.

Firstly, you need to have a medical certificate stating that you are clear of most diseases, alcoholism and are not a drug addict. Passed with flying colours.

Secondly, I got busted for non show for my 3 monthly report to the immigration and that cost me 2,000.00 Baht in fines. I have never been questioned before about not reporting and this was a bit of a shock when they pulled me up.

Thirdly, and most surprisingly I was offered for a fee of an extra 7,000.00 Baht a 2 year work permit with a 2 year multiple entry visa.

And that offer came at the 24th hour and just as I was to pick-up my passport and permit books.

I am not sure if this is a new law but it certainly is a good one.

How do they test to see if you're an alkie?

Do they leave a load of booze knocking about the office, and then make an excuse about having to go and do some photocopying??

    A blood test mate.

In fact most of the rig workers I know have to have a medical clearance before they can rejoin their work company.

These blokes I know have a few dry days before they have their tests.

In fact I have no idea about how long the remnants of alcohol can be traced within your body.

Apparently marijuana remains in your system for some time.

The 7 diseases identified on the certificate are all treatable, including syphilis and I wonder what they would do if you failed the physical.

Strangely enough no requirement to undergo a HIV test.

That includes the work permit and multiple entry visa (7,000.00 Baht) covering 12 months. I don't think it has doubled mate.

Its doubled as in my current 2 yr work permit cost 3,500b in 2009, am surprised they give you a visa, usually its an extension on your permission to stay, is the labour Dept issuing Visa's these days ?

I go to the One Stop Immigration Department on Rama 4 Road almost opposite Suriwongse Road.

I always understood that the Work permit and visa dates should be aligned and this department has both divisions (Work Permit and Immigration) on the same floor.

I think that is why it is called the One Stop Shop.

A visa along with the work permit, 2 years as of today.

I understand that companies that have BOI status can apply for longer terms then 1 year but my company is privately owned.

They have asked why I don't apply for PR but I cannot see any advantages. And you must apply for a work permit and if you want to leave the Kingdom you have to apply for an exit permit which takes 2 days application and approval time.

Nice one, I did not know they can issue a visa in country, they give me a multi entry extension on the permission to stay that was first issued to align my original 3 month single entry non B visa 5 yrs ago to my work permit, hence I do not have a visa.

Well it is pretty private between me and them and who knows what laws I may be unknowingly breaking.

Better still I can give you the number of the lady who arranged mine and your friend can speak to her direct. And she's quite cheap and efficient.

Still keen to see this visa.

Visa = Border run every 90 days.
Extension = Reporting address every 90 days.
