Today I went to Thai Immigration BKK to up-date myself on what I am required to do to extend my 90-day "O" visa for nine more months to make a full year. IMO It seems that some more recent changes have been made to the law since 1 October 2006.
In the past and from what I have read on this forum, I understood that, for marriage, you must have 400,000 baht in the bank at least 3 months prior to applying for the extension or 40,000 baht per month income. Monthly income may be your's, wife's, or a combination.
Today I was informed that for marriage visa, I or my wife, or both, must actually work (not be retired) and have at least 40,000 baht per month income. The lady further stated that since I am over 50 I should go for the retirement visa and show proof of 800,000 baht in the bank for the past three months or proof that I have income of 65,000 baht per month income.
65,000 baht per month income is not a problem, however, this is new information from what I have heard and seen here. So it seems to me from what I was told today that married people under age 50 are going to have some real problems unless they work and meet the 40,000 per month requirement. According to this lady the 400,000 baht requirement was no more for married visa.
I'll be trying to complete the requirements and get the extension this week. I'll post again here the results.
