    whats happening in penang?

I have heard lots of different stories, 4 months ago I went and got my non imm O no problems.
I have heard a rumor that they have stopped this service and non imm B’s also.
Thing is the visa service people down there are still claiming it is ok to do them there.
Anyone got any news or been recently?

I read a thread on Ajarn recently saying that things are simple provided you have all of the correct paperwork and get your employer to phone the consulate first.

Every year the same rumour, yet I have never known anybody to have a problem as long as they have the right paperwork, anyway I have emailed 3 visa agents in Penang so we should soon all know the truth.

thanks DD, but.... wouldn't they say that either way? once your there you would still have to pay them to get you a single entery! if non imm Os and Bs have been stopped theyt wil be losing money. not trying to dis what your saying but they are pakkies after all!
marmite, in my case i get a non imm O because i am married and have kids! nothing to do with work mate.

I was talking about Non Imm 'B's.

Can you get a Non Imm 'O' if you are just married with no kids?

Is the visa a one year multiple entry or just 3 months?

Do you need loads of money in the bank?

no its a multiple entery, its good for 15 months(the visa is for 12 but they give you another 3 months when its run out and you're coming back in)
you dont need a penny in the bank.
thats a non imm O for 1 year, you have to show 400,000BHT then you don't need to do visa runs. i think you can also get that one without going to a consulate overseas. i think immigration in BKK give that one out.
you also have to show the money in a thai bank, each year you need to show the money going in (but i have been told that they turn a blind eye if its just stagnent).

you're welcome however if penang is not doing it any more its of no use!
i haven't got a scooby where eles does them. i have also asked an ex-poster of this site who is an expert in such matters. he thinks the rumors may well be true and he doesn't know which port would be the closest.

I did some more googling, and according to that site everybody here loves to hate, it does seem like Penang is fine again, it was just a problem for a short period of time.

From the grapevine I also hear Kuala Lumpur is pretty good for being close to Thailand.

Other places supposed to be liberal according to people are Brisbane consulate in Australia, Houston Consulate in Texas USA, and Hull consulate in UK.

thats about cost though...3 days in penang is within my budget....sadly trips toeither australia or england arn't.
also hull has been red carded visas from hull can bring problems, or so i have heard, immigration here seem to think everything that has a hull stamp on it is moody!
i also belive that penang will still be ok, as DD said it is the same sort of thing every year. i don't understand why they would not issue NON IMM O's
    to husbands or farthers.

It's actually because they were operating a visa scam from there.

he's in the next office to mine so i don't really need to go to ajarn. all he knows is hear say, the same as us really. I would like to hear from anyone that has hard cold proof other than gossip!
Don't get me wrong, he is very knowledgable, but he has never been so he's not 100%
