    90 Day Report confusion

My friend got a retirement visa in January and then flew home to take care of some business. He had a re-entry permit and came back 3 weeks ago. He has a slip that says he was supposed to do a 90 report this coming Monday.

I told him that I thought the date was changed when he left the country and he thinks he still has to report on Monday.

So should he show up Monday or 90 days from the day he arrived back in Thailand.

I reported on the day indicated on the "slip", and they were glad to see me... !

I don't believe the re-entry has any effect as they want you to have the fourth date as close as possible to the original 1 year date. At least that is what I was told.

    Plus minus a few days.
I wouldn't challenge my luck with 7 business days..

Correct. Rule is "anyone staying in Thailand continuously for 90 days must report address"

    Exactly !
The re-entry is just permission to re enter without having to apply for a visa - it has no bearing on reporting dates .
If , however you have to leave the country (with a re-entry) and there is a chance that you will be away at your reporting date and cant report within the 7days each way concession, Immigration will put a piece of paper in your passport ( all in Thai!) BEFORE YOU LEAVE and stamp it ! No problem except it must be done at an Immigration Office and not at the airport .
Works for me in Phuket at least .

    ^

Correct. Rule is "anyone staying in Thailand continuously for 90 days must report address"

Looks like the rule is liable to local interpretation !!
I have had the 'extra 'bit of paper twice now and it seems to be the system in Phuket.
Was given the first one when I went to Phuket Immigration office for a re-entry stamp as I had to go to Taiwan 10 days before my reporting date and was not sure of my return date - there was no fuss and it seemed to be a routine process!
My retirement visa still was only valid for 12 months from the day I got it.

Ohh Really Mr Happyman, the HR dept here at work disagrees with your input.

They say, the 90 day reporting period (Non B Visa's) runs from the time of re-entry into the Kingdom.

Called Immigration in Nong Khai. Informed that the reporting date is 90 days after your return back in Thailand.

Thetyim, you seem to have a grasp of the rules so I will take your advice. Besides you said the same as me so you must be right!

I had a very good ending to what I thought was going to be a mess on April 16. I went for a border run to Cambodia with a 'Non B' visa expiring on April 26. I went thru, did some shopping, and returned. I was stamped back in with a date of July 14 to renew my visa, so I got 80 days free. I questioned the lady and even showed her my expiration date, and she said I was good to go. Happy Ending.

^ I think Mr Smith has just found out that "1 year visas" (if mulitple entry, like a non-o for example) can get you 15 months in Thailand. Just becuase the "visa" expires on 26 april, you can visa run on 26 april and get three more months making the total time 15 months and not 12.

Just to add. Type of visa is irrelevant to the 90 day reporting rule.

Nobody would think you sound like an idiot for asking a question or needing some further info.
The whole visa topic can be very complex but fortunatley on here we have plenty of folks ready to help.

I like to use the extra 3 months and chalk it down to Thailand giving me 25 quid / 25% longer visa for free

    Ever so confusing !!!
I have a retirement visa and what I said in my post seems to work here .
I shall just bumble on - I just get single re-entry visas each time - maybe that's the difference ?
