Thread: Visa is in my Old Passport

My Partner has a UK Indefinite Leave to Remain Visa in her old Passport and travels with her New Passport . So she is always travelling with two Passports . This has not been a problem . But now from somewhere we are hearing that you can not do that any more . You MUST get your Visa placed in your Current Passport . You must travel with one passport and this one must contain your Visa . Is this true ?

Same issue nor sure the rules, please update if you cam

Nothing has changed on gov.uk website, although maybe your partner was told she needs the visa on new passport to prove she has the right to work...

Prove your right to work in the UK
You cannot use a valid visa in your expired passport to prove you have the right to work in the UK. You must replace your visa with a biometric residence permit.

Travel to and from the UK
You can use the valid visa in your expired passport when you’re travelling to and from the UK. You’ll need to travel with your expired and your new passport.

Unless things have changed, Wasp, she should be able to do it at the airport upon arrival in the UK. Just ask the Immigration Officer to put a stamp in her new passport.

Mr. Nev , She has been doing that for a number of Years . Elastic Band around Two Passports . IDR in the old Passport and waving the New Passport . Travelling without difficulty back and forth to Thailand . When ( Thai ) people started saying the rules have changed { why does this happen absolutely all the time ? One might think it's all money-making . } It's Thai Facebook contacts who have been saying this but of course they can't point me to any Government Statement saying it be so .

And Reg ....... no she does not have a BRP . I just don't have the sort of brain for all of this . She went to Santorini for just a 4 Day Holiday with her friends and the amount of work I had to do to get a Scengen Visa for her was just astonishing ...... and ridiculously expensive. If having a BRP is of any usefulness I'll have a try .

No. It's not a Stamp . It's a full-page Sticker . And like I said - she has been travelling carrying two Passports . Passport Control at Heathrow has been fine . They are still fine . But we keep hearing over and over from other Thais that this has changed or will be changing . Soon .
She used the two Passports and elastic band again in February to come back from Thailand . And also just one month ago to return from Greece .
Clearly what I want here is not to pay for tickets - turn up at Heathrow - and be refused Boarding if the situation has been changed . David44 is on here saying he too is a bit unsure .

Just do the decent thing and marry the woman and get her a UK passport.

Re the OP, no it's not true.

However, there's no reason why you can't have the visa transferred. Why don't you do that if you are so worried. You can probably do it online. Check how long it will take to ensure passport will be ready before travelling.

We are married .

Well - she has the Sticker already . Why go through all the uncertainty and cost of getting another ? The damn thing says it's an Indefinite Permit . It's a costly business to put a copy into the present Passport and then in 4 years she renews the Passport and spends ANOTHER £200 getting the same Sticker replicated once more !!!.
It includes a required travel up to London and they will keep the Passport as long as they want to . If I can avoid all of that - I will .
( Her friend's Passport has been with the Embassy 5 months !! ) .

AND -- It's not a question of " if you are so worried " . It's a question of is this rumoured change TRUE or not ?.

A Guy I know is a very educated guy . Well-Spoken . A highly skilled Engineer . Not by any means a dumb person . I was moaning to him about the Life In The UK Test . He agreed to take a Trial Test -- and he did not Pass .
You get perfectly ordinary decent people shopping at the Asda Supermarket near me . Stand outside and randomly pick anyone at all ....... and I am sure they would Fail that stupid test . After all - who the Hell knows ' How many members are in the Northern Ireland Assembly ' ? And who cares ?

THAT'S the sort of question they get asked . WHY ? There's nothing there about ordinary life in the UK . Most Brits would fail the Test .

My thanks to you and Reg . And I know that in the normal course of things you would practise and practise and practise and persist . But I absolutely tell you --- this is not a path that she can take . She is both Uneducated and very smart . Smart beyond belief in practical matters . She would whip you up a fabulous meal from just a few ingredients . But she can not add 13 and 18 in her head . You have to know your own limitations and I know hers too . She can not cope with a computer scrfreen showing multiple choices for these ridiculous questions . Anyway Huguenots are not Brits . Why does she need to know about French Religious Fugitives ? That is NOT " Life in the UK " . She can walk out of here - use an ATM - get herself to a Train Station - buy a ticket and travel to Ascot and watch the horsies if she wants to . THAT is 'Life' .

^ Have very similar, wasp. Can do all sorts of practical things, but this silly test is not one of them. I had a look through the questions and decided they were useless for day-to-day life.

My wife was very self conscious of both her English skills and her colour. That disappeared after our first trip to Norfolk, a decade ago. She was shocked how many people came up to speak to her, children, couples, old grannies, and fell in love with the place. However, Brexit has stopped her visiting, won't give her the free visa she is entitled to.
Nowadays, it's Italy, France, Holland and Switzerland. I can't be bothered with the UK any longer, only go to visit my dad and a few friends.

Rwanda is not a solution, pushing people back to France is not the solution. (The Tories gave up this idea a few years ago but Reform seem to think they are above International Law).

The answer is for the UK to stop treating everyone as if they are an economic migrant and get back to a working system. They need to process applications swiftly and efficiently and give visas to those that are entitled, especially for visiting only. Process centres in France and Belgium and permitting those eligible to enter, without prejudice due to numbers would be a good start.

But we digress...
