Now does anyone have an answer to the question?

Been using happily for many years the Travel Shoppe on Tha Pae Gate. No thrills and cash-only payments but they've been round a long time and find better deals than the internet.

Always get cheaper deals in Travel agents - I stopped using online about 8 years ago except to get a bench mark price to walk into a travel agent with. They will always shave money off of a flight, and on business class this can be hundreds of dollars.

Yeah - usually the way to go.
Too many hidden strings and negative variables with online ticketing.

A decent agent that knows their shit can secure a good deal for ya.

Load of bollocks, go your travel agent get a price, come back here and i will find it cheaper.

The real reasoon the op wants an agent is probably because he has no credit or debit card.

I don't at all mind paying a fee for the service.

All I ask is that they speak fluent English, be trustworthy...

...and be reachable during midday, Thailand time (in other words they would probably have to be located here in Thailand, Philippines or Western Australia etc.)

I am in Chiang Mai, and would love to meet the agent face to face, but that is not an absolute necessity.

I need someone who can tell me the best days to fly, not ask me what specific date I "want" to fly.

And I need someone who can book reasonable arrival and departure times, rather than just showing me lowest fares

Etc.

In other words, someone who listens and provides actual service.

I will be grateful to any member here who can guide me.

I live on Koh Samui and find PANTIP TRAVEL very good, believe they have branches all over Thailand.

Not what I found in the past gave up using travel agents years ago in bkk. Went to two asking for the cheapest prices, they gave me the more expensive ones. Asked about Jet Air- no have seat solly. Went straight home and booked with them online. Booked Emirates on their site in Jan for 23k return to UK, no agent could get better than that. Twice years ago booking with bkk agents it was murder to get the tickets out of them once paid. Nobody needs them these days.

Not exactly an answer to your original question, but maybe some helpful advice.

When you do searches online, be sure that you either clear your cookies/ browsing history, or use a totally different computer. Many websites track your searches, and you won't see new deals. I have searched the same sites for the same flights on my iPhone, iPad, and laptop, and got different prices!

I recently started using flights.google.com, and I've found some really good deals through it.
