Yes, it is the opposite of having a Tourist Visa.

The Exemption allows tourists to enter while being Exempt from needing a Tourist Visa.

For some reason people do get them mixed up though.

For the sake of safety (time wise) the lad would be best going to Laos and easily getting a Double Entry Tourist Visa....... If there are any issues down the line, he will be safe for 180 days (extension, border-run, extension permitting.)

Was your extension for 60 days? It should have been if you are married to a Thai.

And Visa or Visa Exemption can be extended for 60 days based on 'Visiting a Thai family member'.

That is either a Thai husband/wife, or child.

It's known as the unoffical marriage visa, for lazy penniless twats that live near borders.

Do a border hop, then at any time extend it for 60 days based on visiting Thai family (wife). Repeat. It was mainlt done before Savannakhet did 12 month Non-O based on marriage without proof of funds being required.

I don't think nowadays they'll let you do it twice in the same year, Luigi, but it might depend on which immigration office you use.

Immigration office policy can even change the official dates for Songkran, so actual immigration policy between offices is always dependent on smoke and mirrors.

Double entry tourist visa - yes from a Thai embassy in your country of origin.
From a Thai embassy in a neighbouring country to Thailand - no I don't think any of them issues a double entry nowadays.
Single entries and max three of them in a row from what I've been told.

lom; a little off the mark there in your info, you don't get out much huh?

Vientiane, Savannakhet, Phnom Penh all issue double entry tourist visas.

One small correction TD - Phuket is not a border crossing.

But agreed - the Immi Colonel is a PITA.
