I printed off the application form that MtD posted a link to. It only applies to Udon on the form. My missus will take it to the hospital later. Report will be forthcoming.

According to another forum this insurance only applies to immigrant workers in Thailand. Farangs don't count. So the forum sez.
I know of 4 people who got theirs last week at Udon General.

2 Germans, 2 Brits. None are working here.

Anyways here is my findings. Me and the missus went to our local hospital armed with the application form. Wife explained the situation to the office girl. I even put her computer on the Thai link that MtD posted. She read it. Then she phoned another hospital. The answer that came back was this is for migrant workers, not farang and not available. Full stop.

^ Always annoying when Thai bureaucrats don't have a clue. Go back in 6 months time and they're be telling your wife, "Ja, we've had it for ages. Didn't you know?"

I have had mine for about two years. I haven't used it for anything yet though. I don't know what to use it for....lol

Regarding the medical card. They used to issue them with the yellow book but when I got mine, I was informed that they don't issue them any more.

That is correct. It has now been stopped and they're now issueing the 'Insurance Card'. You initially pay 2800 Baht which includes 600 Baht for the medical. Every year after you just pay 2,200 Baht and you have access to government hospitals free.

And in Udon they've stopped the insurance scheme and there's over 200 people on the waiting list. Idiots.

I used my "Gold Card" the other day at the local Government Hospital - it was Constitution Day and Clinics were closed anyhow, the Government Hospital is closer to any other first aid place and I had a bad allergy to เกสรมะม่วง (Mango Pollen) and my face was all swolled up. The cute little nurses there gave me a jab in the butt and some pills and I was out of there in <15min.

This is Thailand and each hospital is different. But I'm just going on what my hospital is now saying. They say the 'Gold Card' has stopped for all farang.

It now appears that the 'Thai Medical Insurance' is also now on hold, according to TV forum and MtD.

In Udon, anyway. Other places seem to be business as usual.
