I've never been hassled about this by the Thais, but twice the people at the airline check-in at LAX have raised the issue. If that happens, show them the retirement visa and if they still hold you up, demand a supervisor. But yes, the one way ticket is fine.
That might be his only slight issue....as, many airline employees aren't familiar with legitimate immigration regulations. Most are conditioned to question any one-way ticket, regardless of said situation.

The fucking airlines are the first line of officialdom, given to them by the respective govts everywhere.....nothing to do with any law/mandate, but policy.

    Good Luck!

You'd be surprised as to how many buy into this "secured" 800K crap for particular visas/immigration status. It's been discussed at length within this sub-forum.

This has been discussed many times before and is a nonissue. Just tell the airlines you plan on traveling SEA by road and do not know when you will be returning. They can't control what you do once you land in Thailand.

Despite a one way ticket you will be given a re boarding slip when you get off the plane, Make sure you hang onto this because you will need it every time you renew your visa, or report every 90 days.

I thought it was law that when an airline delivers a person to a country and they are denied entry, then the airline is liable to return that person to his point of departure at their cost. This is the reason why airlines check before you board the plane.

Still worth mentioning especially to someone who does not know, It was resolved politely both times, once by the supervisor telling the clerk it's OK and the other time I had to wait while she left to make a xerox copy of my visa. If I'm not mistaken the airlines are sometimes fined if they bring someone to a Country who is subsequently denied entry because of paperwork.

Any issues getting one the plane with a one-way ticket? Any issues in Thailand?
And... will I be good for a year (stamp?) or will I have to go see immigration while I"m there?

As stated you will be given one year at the airport just make sure that the dates are right and with the OA if you leave prior to your first year you be given another year upon return just ensure you get a new entry stamp for either multi or single entry after additional year is given

As there is little difference between a single or return fare, why not get a return ? once you have landed, relaxed, got your feet up, phone the airline and if you know your next return date, simple. I have done this going to the states, decided to stay another 6 months, no probs. Best of luck..
