Teaching job wanted in Krabi...

Morning/Evening all,
I am desperately to find a teaching job in Krabi. My reasons for this are so that my family can be with each other. Currently I am living in Trang; a nice enough place, but I would like my daughter and her cousins (also half westerners) to be able to play together as often as possible before we make the long trip back home to blighty in the next few yrs or so, depending on how things pan out in Krabi (getting really quite bored and as I work in education here I don't really want me daughter to go to a Thai school and I can't afford an international one as yet!!!).

My wife is a talented chef and she wants to open a small restaurant in or around the Krabi area.

I have been teaching in Thai schools for 6yrs+ now!! However, I would prefer if possible to teaching in a hotel(s) and train staff to converse and behave correctly with customers.

I am highly professional and dedicated and not in anyway a fly-by night teacher.

OP, why not go to Krabi and set it up yourself, there's a couple of hotels there, knock on their doors, ask to speak to the GM, set up your own company.

Risky, but might pay off.

Krabi (and Phang Nga) are very seasonally sensitive. The additional problem is that in low season everybody tries to save every baht they can and in high season they try to maximise productivity of the staff so they won't release them for courses unless they are higher end places which can retain underemployed staff through the low season.

Demand for his kind of tuition is going away, it is now in-sourced to department heads and then trickled down to their deputies etc with paperwork snagged from the 'net or created in house.

If you want to be close to Krabi then Phuket is somewhat less seasonally sensitive, it might be better to aim for there.

I was going to suggest the same thing that Sir Wilson did. Go door to door at the larger hotels, but also the smaller boutique type resorts. Since business at the places is seasonal, you could offer group classes at a discount in the low season. This way the staff would be finished their course in time for hi season, then they could do once weekly classes or private classes.

Dont just show up on a cold call, do some research. Get on the net and search the 5 star hotels, look at their websites. You may find a trainer position available. Sent out a cover letter and a CV, with relevant experience and you might get a bite. But if you dont have hospitality experience it could be a drawback. You have no where to go but up.

Research books and the such as well. Will you be teaching low end like housekeeping and maintenance? Reception and front office, bell boys and porters? You would need very different activities with specialized language for all three.

Send a pm this way if you like. I have been teaching Hospitality and Tourism for a long time. But at the university level so the courses are Tourism or Hotel Management. Though I did start out with ITIM here. One of the first so called "colleges" or whatever to offer all levels of the Hospitality industry in English.

Can someone teach in Thailand at a school and have them pay in cash / baht? Is all money reported to your home country that you make while being a teacher?

How can you request for a school not to report your earnings? Is this possible in Thailand?

It would be illegal, but I'm sure it happens.

As for not reporting to your home country? I'm sure that doesn't happen anyway, but as far as I know, America is the only place that taxes you on worldwide income, and the minimum salary for that to happen is $80,000 or $90,000... So you'll be safe teaching
