    Nice OP edit Smeg.

Isn't that article from the website you 'visit for 5 minutes every month or so'.

TEFL salaries are poor. IMO they are so simply because this reflects the professionalism and training involved.
So professionalism and training is responsible for your pathetically low wage Smeg?

I think teaching as a whole in every country is a poorly paid profession.
If the money is important to you, don't do teaching.
If it makes you happy then do it.

Teachers get great holidays though. Even then I respect anyone who makes a career of teaching, it can't be easy. I know I wouldn't have even half the required paitence.

Even more so in Thailand. Unless as others have pointed out, you have the qualifications that will allow you to compete for the higher paying jobs.

And if your job requires very little in terms of experience and qualifications, don't even imagine for a second that you should be on an even footing salary-wise with engineers, accountants and the like. Mr Guru himself BKK Phil doesn't even have a degree and he's flabbergasted that educated Thais are making more money than most of his TEFL brethren?
    Funny.

Teaching is hard work, particularly if you are doing 25 contact hours a week with primary kids.
Hats off to those who dedicate themselves to making a diffference

No offense, but that's complete BS, or perhaps one of those useless stats.

60K certainly isn't the average for teachers.

No it's not. I do 22 and it's so easy and so much fun it's laughable. We have excelent resources though, and I've had good training which has taught me how to fully organise and execute entertaining and educational lessons, and have the experience to feel totally at home entertaining while teaching 40 6 year olds. But it does take energy, someone who enjoys it (I can't imagine someone not enjoying it once they know how to do it) and someone who's dedicated to it and is actually happy in their life I feel.

Absolutely stress free job if you are naturally suited to it.

Unfortunately a lot, maybe even most, aren't. I wouldn't let half the teachers I work with 'educate' my kids if I had any.

I mean, imagine the likes of Smeg having a daily influence on your child... Scary, SCARY thought.

^ Hey Mao -- Why not post more pics of you getting a blow job? (Give us a visual as you attempt to sound professional while merely being judgmental) Please?

Most people work 40 hour weeks, if the teacher finds it hard going doing 25 hours maybe he isn't really suitable or well enough trained for it?

25 contact hours plus the time to prepare those hours often adds up to a lot more than 40 per week.
Marking, grading, lesson planning and exam setting as well as meetings and other duties is damn tiring.

It's the same lessons year after year, with proper training preperation should only be a couple of minutes each morning, English language isn't evolving at a rapid pace.

    Are you a teacher G2BH?

sounds like a good lark then.

If you've time on your hands, are easy going, professional, don't need to 'make' money to live here, or need to be saving for the future than go get trained up. It's a laugh once you get into it, easy and obviously very rewarding.

Just speaking the truth Obs. Looks like you're lucky enough to have never worked with a lot of the retards who make up the industry. Congratulations.

I don't recall saying she was.

The context as I saw it was somebody claimed 60K was the average salary in the US.

    False.

Then it was 60K is the average for university educated folks

    This is also false.

Furthermore it is false for teachers, who are university educated people.

Got it? I never said anything about AO's wife, now fuck off.
