Not at all. I don't even work as a teacher. But this thread is about a thread on ajarnforum and the views of various teachers expressed there.

Phuket has a large expat population that ranges from people that are on the bones of their arse to multi-millionaires. For every one expat that lives there, there are ten that want to.

I don't see much evidence of this. Whilst I was in Hong Kong I saw lots of westerners driving around in porsches and jaguars. I've never seen one in Thailand. I see the odd scrawny looking westerner with hs black tirac driving a pickup or a vios, but that is it.

As for people wanting to move to Thailand, I'd say that if you did a survey of the entire population of the Uk and asked them if they'd like to emigrate to Australia, Spain, or Thailand, Thailand would get about 3% of the vote. Furthermore, there are more Thais living in Los Angeles alone (80,000) than all farangs from every western country living in the whole of Thailand!

Immigrants have taken over were I used to live. The high-street that used to be the main shopping area for hundreds of thousands of people is now virtually a no-go area filled with those 99p shops. Chavs and hoodies all over the country have taken over towns so that it is no longer safe to go out after dark. Old people stay home in fear. Anti-social behaviour has increased and is out of control. The present government has created a Nanny State that tells you what to do and what not to do. Many, many Brits that I have met want to move to Thailand to escape all this.
Why is it only Thailand that has such a huge population of Expats with ten times more wanting to live here?

So you don't like foreigners but you want to live in a foreign country. Sounds a bit nuts to me. Thailand is becoming more of a nanny state than the UK. As for anti-social behaviour, I spent March 2003 to March 2005 plus several months since then in the UK and saw nothing worth worrying about. Lots of talk of it in the newspapers, but so what?

Going to university for the first time, hobbies with good friends, be it football, sailing, building and racing a rally car, or pulling birds.

smeg where abouts did you go?
If you spent any amount of time in a decent sized city or town and saw nothing untoward then you are a very lucky person or walk around with your eyes closed.
I live and work in London so i know first hand what its like here as for other cities and towns its only what i have been told.

Thats fine, but they aren't "wealthy". Wealthy westerners don't live in villages in developing south east asia.

I think retiring to Thailand is a great idea once you've lived most of your life elsewhere. I'll probably sell up and do something similar 20 years for now (but probably in brazil), but at 38 years of age I could think of nothing worse than living in a village in isaan with a rice farmers daughter. I have two decades more of life to enjoy in the developed world before doing something like that. Anyway this thread is about arrogant insane teachers not retirees living somewhere where they can get laid and make their pension go further.

I spent that time in Bournemouth and Southampton. Sure, I saw hoodies walking around, but nobody bothered me during those two years and I didn't feel threatened.

I saw something very similar today in the mall bang kapi, a gang of about 10 tatood bleached and dyed haired thai youths of about 17 years old walking through the place trying to look big.

And isn't it Thailand that stopped uni student males from wearing uniforms because of a huge number of incidents where they targeted, killed and maimed students from other unis? I've never heard of UK uni students doing that, have you? As for daily gang rapes by groups of Thai male youths in the media, how many of those do you hear about in the UK? That is far worse than a bit of "happy slapping" or whatever it is called, but I guess you don't read Thai newspapers so you only know about the Uk stuff. Blinkered...
