    PM 2.5 and Education

I'm curious to see how different schools are handling the pollution situation here in Thailand and outside of Thailand. In Mongolia it was business as usual, despite having far worse pollution. A bad air quality day in Thailand would be a good day in the depths of winter over there. Now back in Thailand, I am noticing a far more cautious and less cavalier approach. I do not work in a government school, so we are under no obligation to close...yet. However, no PE, no playtime outside, morning assembly is done inside the classroom and in theory masks should be worn, but people seem really really over masking now. The lack of playtime and PE is making kids restless, not badly behaved per say, just somewhat less focused than usual due to a lack of play and movement. Looking forward to clearer skies, but that seems to be just a dream at the moment.

I work at a private school in Bangkok and the situation there is just the same as you described.

The pollution in BKK is bad, but nothing compared to when I taught in Beijing. They shut the schools, and we were told to stay home.
So sad in this day and age that kids need to miss school because of the air quality. The problem with no playtime is it really affects kids, not having fresh air and moving their bodies as much as they would outside.

Too bad about the situation in Bangkok, but sometimes the air isn't any cleaner inside. I know that we were mandated to have air purifiers in the classrooms in China, which didn't always happen and here in Canada even though the air is clean, we still have a standing air purifier in most classes. As you said, Mandy, the dirty air makes kids (adults too) very tired and restless. I hope the situation improves.
