I'm not frowning on normal folk but I'd sure like to share stories about my richness and, errm, cleverness. Do I have to disparage someone first or can I just chime in whenever?

Bastard bastard bastard, Im a bastard for not thinking teaching here for pennies is a good long term idea.

Oh, and I'm not sure if farangs who turn their back on western civilisation to work here for a few baht could be considered normal folk.

He actually lives here and has just returned from the UK where he couldn't earn enough in 6 month to keep his wife and 2 children on. Working as a teacher in BKK is a last resort rather than having to go back to the UK to try and earn money. Apparently due to the influx of foreign workers into the UK working there for 6 months and then living here for 6 months is no longer feasible.
Quite right, in what Spin says "What is it about Thailand that makes people do mad things ?"

    DD actually.

In theory this thread should be cleaned up, but it seems to be not too bad at the moment.

surprised you took so long DD.

    what makes him a ****?

sounds like he fancies a year away with cheap sometimes free beaver and would actually like to do a bit of work rather than spending grannie's leftovers on the hoes.

He couldn't earn enough in the UK to feed his child and wife, so he comes to Thailand as a qualified foking teacher, load of foking bolloxs, the cnut is a foking shelf packer that should consider that his best career move he could ever make, tell the foking waster to go back to shelf packing, if he does nights he will earn more money, foking cnut....

Reading the post I see that he was looking for a way to earn enough in six months to provide for his family in a six on/six off situation. That is not always so easy to do. Most folks where I came from worked all year for a two week vacation.

Going off subject slightly but around where I live all the UK guys seem to be doing this 6 months here 6 months there. Where has the Germans that have houses here use them as holiday homes and will not take up full time residence until they're of an age to be able to afford to stay here. What is it that makes the UK guys do this ? Are they living in a dream world ?

40,000 a month isn't so bad. 10,000 for the wife, 10,000 on rent, etc., the rest on whatever. 50-70,000 or even better 100,000, but one can squeak by on 40, if they're living in affordable digs, that is.

Much as I hate to agree with Nooners, he's right. It's about lifestyle. I had a good job in London for a long time, plus a nice flat that was worth a lot more than the mortgage, but I wasn't enjoying life. Got a TEFL Cert, sold up, moved out here, bought a house for cash with plenty left in the bank, got a job doing something I found I liked. I now earn a fraction of what I used to earn and am much happier. That's all there is to it.

It is all about what you want in life. As another poster stated if you want to make money teaching English then Thailand is NOT the place to be.
