Eleven Global Warming Stories From 2013 You Probably Never Heard Of

December 30, 2013 | Filed under: News, Opinion, Uncategorized
    By Elmer Beauregard
If you get your news from the likes of The Huffington Post and the New York Times here are some stories about Global Warming that occurred in 2013 that you probably never heard of.

    1. Antarctic Global Warming Expedition Ship Trapped in Sea Ice. You may have heard about the Russian vessel trapped 100 miles away from land in 10 feet thick ice in Antarctica and how three ice breakers have failed to rescue it. What you may not have heard is this ship is filled with Climate Scientists studying Global Warming. They are comparing data from 100 years ago when there was no sea ice in the same location.

    2. Yachts Trapped in Sea Ice in the Arctic Last Summer. You probably didn’t hear about all the yachts, sailboats, rowboats, and kayaks that got trapped by sea ice while trying to sail the fabled Northwest Passage. They were promised an ice free passage.

    3. Global Sea Ice at Record Levels. Al Gore and John Kerry 5 years ago predicted that 2013 would be ice free in the arctic. You probably haven’t heard that the exact opposite came true. 2013 is currently at the second highest volume of sea ice ever recorded and will probably break the all time record before the season is over.

    4. Half of Meteorologists Don’t Believe in Global Warming. Nearly half of meteorologists and atmospheric science experts don’t believe that human activities are the driving force behind global warming, according to a survey by the American Meteorological Society.

    5. Only 75 “Climate Scientists” Believe in Global Warming. You probably have heard ad nauseum that 97% percent of “Climate Scientists” believe in global warming. That stat was based on a study which counted only 75 of 77 “Climate Scientists”. Compared to the over 31,000 scientists who have signed a petition saying they don’t believe in Global Warming. That’s only 2.3 in 1,000 or .23% of scientists that actually believe in Global Warming.

    6. NASA caught fudging historical temps to make it look like the globe is warming. By massively cooling the past in their recent graphs, NASA has exaggerated the amount of warming they report by nearly twice as much as they did 13 years ago.

    7. Polar Bar Population at Record Levels. Since we’ve been keeping count the Polar Bear population is estimated at a record high of 20k to 25k. 5,000 are expected to be born around the New Year in Russia alone.

    8. Obama Allows Wind Farms to Kill Eagles Without Penalties. Over 50 years ago the green movement started with the book “Silent Spring” which alleged that DDT was killing the Bald Eagle. Now we have come full circle by allowing wind power companies to kill eagles without penalty because it’s “good for the planet”.

    9. The Oceans Aren’t Rising. Remember in 2009 when the officials of the Maldives held a press conference under water to show that their islands were sinking because of global warming. Well a new study done in 2013 shows that there is nothing to worry about.

    10. 2013 Was The Least Extreme U.S. Weather Year Ever. 2013 shatters the record for fewest U.S. tornadoes, 15% lower than previous record. 2013 also had the fewest U.S. forest fires since 1984.

    11. No Global Warming For Over 17 Years. The RSS monthly global mean lower-troposphere temperature anomalies for November 1996 to October 2013 had shown no global warming for exactly 204 months – the first dataset to show the full 17 years without warming specified by Ben Santer as showing the models got it wrong.

Here we go another ice breaker on the way , all because of those global warming clowns doing a faux survey; whats the betting this ship gets stuck as well ?

'''One of the aims of the expedition was to track how quickly the Antarctic’s sea ice was supposedly disappearing.'''

An American icebreaker is being sent to rescue stricken Chinese and Russian vessels in the Antarctic

The United States coast guard is sending the Polar Star to bolster the relief effort, following an appeal by the Australianauthorities.

Although 52 passengers on board a ship trapped in sea ice for nine days off the Antarctic coast have been airlifted to safety in a five-hour operation, the Chinese icebreaker used for the operation is itself stuck.

Again volume does not equal area.

Total ice volume is reducing. Warming increases the energy available in the ocean currents to move the pack ice over a larger area.

Point has been previously addressed and explained in many previous posts.

Find some doubts that do not actually confirm global warming, and that haven't already been addressed. Might make you seem like less of a guilible fool.

For those that like to think more heat is good for us...

Heat kills more than 2000 flying foxes in Ipswich and Redbank

MORE than 2000 flying foxes died from the heatwave that hit Ipswich over the weekend.

The 44-degree temperature on Saturday played havoc with the bats with more than 1000 dead bats picked up by Ipswich City Council officers in Queens Park alone.

    .............

It just goes to show the extent and intensity of the heatwave we had on Saturday. I know that I felt it, but the poor old bats don't know how to deal with the heat.

More extreme weather recorded this week from both sides of the Atlantic. Warnings now coming from Chicago and Canada also

    US 'big freeze'

    No it's not Santa Claus.

Temperatures in the north and central US could feel as low as -60F (-51C) with the effect of wind chill from the rare "polar vortex", forecasters say.

I vaguely recall someone mentioning those beetles on td maybe as evidence that global warming has not really stopped for 17 years ?
Well it looks like the vortex sorted that out

the cold will kill a lot of germs too
    bring it on !!

Thank God for the continental deep freeze. It is an overdue natural savior. It has basically wiped out the the deadly pine beetle that has destroyed British Columbia pine forests and was spreading like the plague to the east and south. Now it is dead in its tracks, saving millions upon millions of acres of pine forests across North America.

Also, hopefully, the deep freeze has done the same to the Asian Carp that threatened to spread into the Great Lakes and further across the continent, destroying marine life like nothing else has ever crippled it.

As well, other invasive plant, marine, reptiles and other introduced species that were wrecking the environment have probably been destroyed, or at least weaken severely, by the icy weather, further protecting what is left of America's natural environment.

Thank God for environment saving the Arctic vortex that people are stupidly complaining about. It is saving me/you/us.

Nice find Blue. You should have posted the main crux of the article and not what some denier posted in the comment section. But I guess it gives the deniers a place to vent and show their ignorance.

    From your link,......

But not only does the cold spell not disprove climate change, it may well be that global warming could be making the occasional bout of extreme cold weather in the U.S. even more likely. Right now much of the U.S. is in the grip of a polar vortex, which is pretty much what it sounds like: a whirlwind of extremely cold, extremely dense air that forms near the poles. Usually the fast winds in the vortex—which can top 100 mph (161 k/h)—keep that cold air locked up in the Arctic. But when the winds weaken, the vortex can begin to wobble like a drunk on his fourth martini, and the Arctic air can escape and spill southward, bringing Arctic weather with it. In this case, nearly the entire polar vortex has tumbled southward, leading to record-breaking cold, as you can see in this weatherbell.com graphic:

That disruption to the polar vortex may have been triggered by a sudden stratospheric warming event, a phenomenon Rick Grow explained at the Washington Post a few days ago:

Large atmospheric waves move upward from the troposphere — where most weather occurs — into the stratosphere, which is the layer of air above the troposphere. These waves, which are called Rossby waves, transport energy and momentum from the troposphere to the stratosphere. This energy and momentum transfer generates a circulation in the stratosphere, which features sinking air in the polar latitudes and rising air in the lowest latitudes. As air sinks, it warms. If the stratospheric air warms rapidly in the Arctic, it will throw the circulation off balance. This can cause a major disruption to the polar vortex, stretching it and — sometimes — splitting it apart.
Nice to know you’re keeping up and hopefully learning something along the way. And Blue since you’re reading about this storm maybe you would consider another article: Dear Donald Trump: Winter Does Not Disprove Global Warming

All of this is all wrong in ways that have all been explained before. So just a few brief observations:

    1. Statements about climate trends must be based on, er, trends. Not individual events or occurrences. Weather is not climate, and anecdotes are not statistics.

    2. Global warming is actually expected to increase "heavy precipitation in winter storms," and for the northern hemisphere, there is evidence that these storms are already more frequent and intense, according to the draft US National Climate Assessment.

    3. Antarctica is a very cold place. But global warming is affecting it as predicted: Antarctica is losing ice overall, according to the latest report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. However, sea ice is a different matter than land-based or glacial ice. Antarctic sea ice is increasing, and moreover, the reason for this may be climate change! (For more, read here.)

Finally, just one last thing. When it's winter on Earth, it's also summer on Earth...somewhere else. Thus, allow us to counter anecdotal evidence about cold weather with more anecdotal evidence: It's blazing hot in Australia, with temperatures, in some regions, set to possibly soar above 120 degrees Fahrenheit in the coming days.
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

Looks interesting I assume it's a given that the evidence points towards the sun as the major driver in climate change ,with man made pollution a distant second and Co2 playing a very minor role indeed.

Guess the best action is stopping the massive population boom in Africa and Asia , is that the advice given ?

You're starting to get a grip, congrats. Those invasive species and wood beetles wouldn't have spread like wildfires if the climate were what it used to be.

Bad News For The Global Warming Fanatics - Almost Zero Temperature Growth In The Northern Hemisphere Since 1866

Then again, the warmists long ago stopped listening to facts that disprove their cult-like belief in global warming.
    Via Real Science:
The graph below merges the 2002 Version Of GISS 1866-1882 NH temperatures, the 1975 National Academy of Sciences 1882-1970 NH temperatures, and RSS 1979-2014 NH temperatures. There have been two cooling periods and two warming periods since 1866, with almost no net change in temperature.

    Global warming devastates America

See that white stuff floating down past the orange trees and landing on your alligators and manatees, Florida? That's global warming, that is.

See that frozen white thing by the harbor that used to look a green woman with a spiky headdress, New York? That's global warming, that is.

See that chilling solid yellow stream extending upwards from the snowy ground to your shrivelling blackened member after you made the very wrong call to take an al fresco leak, Chicagoans? That's global warming, that is.

How do we know this? Because Bryan Walsh of Time magazine says so:

^ You really are an idiot. Delingpole is another kook with no scientific background. The time magazine article at least has facts supported by science. Delingpole just has a big mouth oh, and he works for Rupert Murdock. No surprise.
