i thought about putting this on the giuliani thread, but this thread, but IMO this topic is worthy of its own thread.
a little background...
when presidential aspirant rudy giuliani was mayor or NYC, his right hand man was bernard kerik. so much so that rudy name bernie police commissioner in 2000.
after 9/11 rudy became a folk hero who suddenly had a lot of 'war on terror' credibility in the media...and in washington.
in 2004 GWB was looking for a secretary of homeland security, and rudy recommended bernie. but there was a problem....bernie didn't even come close to passing the FBI background check.
there were serious allegations that he was involved in insider trading, that he was having at least 2 adulterous affairs, and perhaps most damningly that me may have been 'mobbed up'.
and the most shocking aspect of these findings is that rudy was warned about these alleged activities....but he still recommended bernie for the job of director of homeland security.
after the president, this is the position that is supposed to protect the american people from terrorism....and rudy nominated a guy who may have had mafia connections. for a candidate that is basing his entire campaign as the only person who can keep america safe, this raises serious questions about his campaign.
now then, while bernie's name was being floated for the position, executives at newscorp (parent company of foxnews) were panicked that details of bernie's adulterous affair with one of their executives would come to light. the woman in question was editor/publisher judith regan. btw, here's a nice little tidbit...kerik and regan had their illicit liaisons in an apartment that was donated for 9/11 rescue workers.
regan has claimed in a recent lawsuit that newscorp executives asked her to lie to federal investigators about he affair...and she says she has it all on tape.
so, what's the connection between rudy and fox news? why would they care about this?
well, rudy and fox news president roger ailes go way back. ailes worked on rudy's mayoral campaign back in 1989, and rudy put the screws to time warner cable in 1996 to make sure fox news got on their cable system. and oh yeah...rudy officiated at ailes wedding.
one would think that this would end rudy's campaign, right?
