Peau Thai Party exhibition lauding the Red Shirts for resisting the military:
"7 Days, 7 Pains of the People" - July 24, 2010
[This is an interesting recasting of the recent riots. Like the
Robert Amsterdam white paper, the Red Shirts are portrayed as being unfairly oppressed by a government that relishes killing innocents. The existence of simple weapons by the Red Shirts is acknowledged as a necessity in a David vs Goliath battle against armed soldiers.
The other fascinating and unique feature is the total absence of any mention of Thaksin. As all Thai movements seek to rally around and glorify "big" personalities, this choice must be deliberate.
The key overall point of interest here is the apparent embracing of the Red Shirt cause by the Peau Thai Party. In the past, the Peau Thai has been eager to benefit politically from Red Shirt sacrifices, but has had mixed feelings about being seen as too close to the cause or following Red Shirt leaders. At times Thaksin has demanded that Peau Thai politicians lead the Red Shirts, while other times the Peau Thai seem to be veering out of Thaksin's control. How this exhibit fits into the Peau Thai/Red Shirt relationship or if it has any significance at all is unclear.
