    Conservative Wins Mexico Election

    BREAKING NEWS

MEXICO CITY - The ruling party’s Felipe Calderon won the official count in Mexico’s disputed presidential race Thursday, a come-from-behind victory for the stiff technocrat. But his leftist rival refused to concede and said he’d fight the results in court.
Calderon, a conservative who preached free-market values and financial stability during the campaign, was already reaching out to other parties to build a “unity government.” His opponent, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, blamed fraud for his narrow loss in the vote count and called on his supporters to fill Mexico City’s main square Saturday in a show of force.
With all of the 41 million votes counted, Calderon of President Vicente Fox’s National Action Party had 35.88 percent to 35.31 percent for Lopez Obrador, of the Democratic Revolution Party. The two were separated by about 220,000 votes.

Somebody mentioned I must think I'm a genius since 90% of the forum disagrees with my views. All I can say is that every where you turn the liberals are being thrown out of office Germany, Canada, Mexico ... and the list goes on. (Remember that "Whispers" song, "And the Beat Goes On ?"

Germany, Canada, Mexico ... and the list goes on.
The Social-Democrats in Germany lost votes, the new "Left Party" gained 8.8%. The "Free Democratic Party", also called "The Liberals" attracted 9.9% - a record high.

Well that's two then. A pretty small list.

The issues in Mexican politics are extremely different than those of the U.S. and the label "conservative" is not a good one.

I wouldn't label Calderón as a "conservative," even though the mainstream American media is doing that.

In addition to that, the social-democrats are still in the government. The chancelor is a conservative but they still got half of the ministers.

The Bush Posse is large and in charge ... what do you think will happen in the upcoming elections in Japan ? Koizumi is on his way out and has been staunchly pro-Bush.

No offense, but this sounds very arrogant.

    "The Bush Posse?"

Calderon is not in the Bush possee I can assure you. He also beat Obrador by tenths of a percentage point, and there is alleged corruption.

Calderon got 35.x% of the vote.

Mexico's biggest trading partner is the U.S. and millions of Mexicans work in the U.S., sending income back into Mexico. It's not about being in a "possee" it's about cooperating with one's neighbor, trading partner, and ally.

How many times have you been to Mexico, SK? And, more than a 2-week vacation?

    I would't call Koisumi "staunchly pro-bush" either.

The U.S. and Japan have been allies for over 50 years.

Seems like a very narrow win. Trouble with a PRI win is that will probably be biz as usual in old mexico. Which isn't great.
Obrador struck me as a Hugo Chavez wanabee.

It will be interesting to see what Calderon does. I predict nothing.

It's a waste of time trying to answer. You're dead wrong about Koizumi and will never admit it.
