Paying Off Clinton's Debt: Not A Dime For Mark Penn?

Paying Off Clinton's Debt: Not A Dime For Mark Penn (Jul 9, 2008)

...Barack Obama has signaled to his top contributors that they should help retire Sen. Clinton's campaign debt. There should be one demand by those willing to make such a contribution -- not a dime for Mark Penn.

It has been widely reported that Penn is owed several millions of dollars for his failed work for Sen. Clinton.

Nearly $6 million in stimulus money was paid to two firms run by Mark Penn, Hillary Clinton’s pollster in 2008.

Federal records show that $5.97 million from the $787 billion stimulus helped preserve three jobs at Burson-Marsteller, the global public-relations and communications firm headed by Penn.

I agree with the Huffpost article- not a dime for Mark Penn. But at the end of the day, I suppose what private contributors may or may not give to Hillary to pay off her campaign debts, and how that money is allocated, is a private matter.

Of course the real Issue is obvious- US politics is dominated by the USD. Democrat or Republican. You need big money to run a succesful political campaign, or even mount a serious challenge. And the sources of that big money do not give it with no strings attached.

They paid off Penn with Stimulus (tax payers) money. The Stimulus Package is a slush fund for the Democrats. Obama didn't use the surplus in his election campaign war chest. They used tax payer money.

They paid Penn's company, Burston Marsteller, for services rendered for the Federal government- not towards the 'Hillary debt'. I hate PR companies, Lobbyists and all that they stand for- but thats the way it is. You don't think Clinton/ Bush etc didn't pay for PR companies services out of federal funds too? Of course they did, in fact Bush & Co with their Rovian tactics took it to a new low.

If Thats your issue (the fact that the largest PR company in the world was hired to do some PR consulting by the Obama administration), then it is yet another Republican non-issue. Like I said, this issue doesn't belong to either party- it belongs to US politics and the US political system.

And I know the three people whose jobs were saved by the Stimulus Package money at Penn's business are going to work real hard. I hope they send the tax payers a thank you note or a Holiday card.

    yet another Republican non-issue
The grasping at straws is long past ridiculous. It's starting to take on the form of silly headlines from some cheap supermarket tabloid.
