    Best News Progs

Helge made me think of this. I usually watch several news shows every morn on the net -- Fox, CBS, CTV, sometimes CBC, ABC, MSNBC, BBC, Al Jazeera, Yahoo. I try to also tune in to Sunday news shows, Meet the Press, etc.
It's very interesting seeing the different take on the news -- how it's reported, if there is an opinion, if something is reported or blatantly missing on the left but not on the right (and vice versa).
I remember shortly after 9-11, Al Jaz had the best no-nonsense coverage of the events.
Don't really have a fav since Tim Russert died. Just flick through to get the gist of all sides.

Al Jazeera when I can get it.
    BBC
    CNN

But by far the best quality news comes via written media.

I actually watched Fox for three hours yesterday, I wanted to see what sort of hysterial they were whipping up about healthcare reform. Well, I sure got plenty of that. About 2.5 hours worth.

I haven't really watched them, except snippets, for a couple of years. Now look, I've got no problem with them having a Right wing slant- it's not as if thats hidden or denied. But it is truly awful, I mean just frikkin awful. It's like Springer masquerading as a journalist. It really has gone downhill, in fact subterranean. It is an insult to the intelligence of it's target market, although no doubt they fail to realise it.

I hope this does not prove to be a trend, although I fear otherwise. Largely as a reaction to Fox. Entertainment and Propaganda masquerading as Journalism. Is there anything this bad on the Left yet? Maybe Olberman?

    I was quite appalled actually.

^ You jest. Some Fox shows are crap, but comparable to good morning america, etc, not bad. How did you get 2.5 hours of Fox? I get about 22 minutes of different shows.
Really, SB, if you watch a broad spectrum of news progs, you see who is dispensing what. More lefties than righties out there.

Sky/Fox seems to be the most fair/balanced.

I love the Pattaya News channel!

Don't know whether to take it seriously or not but it is always worth watching for a good laugh.

Normally don't like watching the news, too upsetting but you do get a good accurate news update by way of some of the good members here on TD.

When I am in Pattaya, which is pretty often, I watch Fox News because I can't get it in Bangkok on Truevision. I watch it only because I find it so amazing that they actually refer to it as news. It is 100 percent propaganda. But at least it's varied and CNN becomes very repetitive.
The show I enjoy the most is Fareed Zakaria GPS Sundays on CNN. I am also a fan of Wolf Blitzer Situation Room.

This is something I know a bit about, and it is potentially quite concerning in our 'free information' society. It can be abused every bit as much by the left as the right btw. Dunno- maybe some sort of 'Standards Commission' needs to be set up, at least so people are informed the difference between opinion, fact and news. Normal people are just not informed of these PR/Spin/ propaganda techniques, and thus not able to differentiate.

Genuinely, I do feel this is an emerging issue. Maybe, in this 'information age', it could be made part of the school curriculum. Not just political spin either (although this is potentially the most sinister, especially if a government resorts to it), but advertising, lobbies & special interest groups too.

As I said, I haven't watched Fox much recently, so maybe I got the worst of it. most of it seemed to be a segment called 'Fox and Friends". I sincerely hope so.

^ OK. I often trust your judgment. But, diff progs have diff views. I watch many; doesn't mean I believe any.

    You mentioned watching TV.

and ^, yes, a poll would be a good idea. Many choices to cover, though.

^ Will check out that Sunday CNN show.
I do like the Sunday shows as they seem to be more evenly balanced, with commentators from both sides.

Sorry, didn't think of putting a poll in and I guess it's too late to do it now. I nominate Norts to add up the tallies.

Start a new OP with poll. Sure some friendly mod will move these posts to the thread.

Oh, I tried that, but it says it must be spam, bad advertising or harrassment...OK, hope one of the mods clues in and transfers this to the NEW thread.

Bladdy %#*!* I did this, had to take a call and DD pops up and says I gotta post the poll within 20 minutes or the thread will be dead. What, is this Jeopardy or something?

Imo, the poll consists of the lesser of the bads, as the better.

Hard to say, as TV is a very poor way to get information on current events these days, because of the way it's done.
