    Huge holy war 'sympathy'

    By MIKE SULLIVAN
    and JOHN KAY

A SHOCKING 400,000 British Muslims are sympathetic to “violent jihad around the world,” spy agency MI5 revealed last night.
The figure contains 1,200 fanatics who are actively engaged in an Islamic “holy war” at home or abroad.
And al-Qaeda sympathisers have attempted to infiltrate the security agency — with a number being caught, the Home Office disclosed.
The disturbing statistics emerged from research conducted across Britain by MI5.
Scotland Yard’s anti-terror chief Peter Clarke backed up the findings yesterday.
He reported that growing numbers of young British Muslims are turning to Islamic terrorism. And they are getting younger and younger.
The top cop spoke as it was revealed one of the two British soldiers killed in a Taliban assault in Afghanistan is a Pakistani-born Muslim — Lance Corporal Jabron Hashmi.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Clarke said his branch has SEVENTY current investigations on the go. These are in London, around Britain and across the world.
And there are SIXTY people awaiting trial in the UK for terrorism-related offences.
He added: “This is unprecedented and the flow of new cases shows no sign of abating — if anything it is accelerating.”
Mr Clarke added there were two other factors “even more alarming” than the gravity of allegations facing the defendants.
He said: “The first is the majority relate to the activities of British citizens against their fellow countrymen. Second is the extreme youth of some of those charged.”
Mr Clarke said police had disrupted three or possibly four attacks since the London bombings — a year ago on Friday.
He added that Britons were being kept in the dark about the true threat from al-Qaeda fanatics. He said: “It is a very, very concerning intelligence picture. It sometimes feels as if the public are not well informed about the reality of the threat.”
The anti-terror chief said his teams were still pursuing suspects who may have supported the July 7 bombers, who killed 52.
A poll in today’s Times shows 13 per cent of Britain’s 1.6 million Muslims think the four 7/7 suicide bombers should be thought of as “martyrs”. But 56 per cent say the Government is not doing enough to fight extremism.

Well that's probably very true - trying to get honest inforamtion out of the government is like getting blood out of a stone.

And so we need to bulldoze through ever more draconian public order offences and increase the police powers to detain suspects without trial.

This will get responses: IF ANY muslim is caught doing any terrorist activity, procecute them and ship their whole family back to wherever they immigrated from. If they made this a law for all offenders, I think you would see a huge reduction in this activity.

Muslim cannot not integrate nor assimilate to Western society.

Read the Quran and it's interpretations.

Some things don't mix: Islam and the West is one of them.

To be fair MM anyone who tried to follow their religion strictly would find living in the West intolerable. Most people simply ignore whatever parts of their religon do not fit in with their chosen lifestyle.

What makes Islam so dangerous is that it does not allow interpretation of the Koran and places a very high degree of emphasis on the control of the individual's thoughts and actions.

Actually it's the other way around. The Koran can be interpreted in so many ways, that a few extremists can easily manipulate it. It's not different from the Bible except the Bible is not coherent and not really as "effective" as the Koran. The problem with the Koran is that it's such an inspiring work for those who follow Islam, that the fervor of religion transpire through their personality, almost taking them over a parallel universe.

    Good point.
An argument often used against Islam is that evrything is to be taken literally and no interpretations are permitted for those following the faith - as if this was possible.
Amazing, when you enquire with different Muslims, how many different versions of adhering to the text 'without interpreting' there are...

Yeah but the first bible version was quite violent, eye for an eye and all that, part 2 was pretty tame really with all that forgive thine neighbour and all that, maybe someone should rewrite the Koran a bit to tame it down, also dump the 72 virgins bit as that is way too tempting for any guy in puberty if they believe that shite.

^ the ancient bible is indeed violent and most fundamentalists christians nuts (Bush and friends) like the old testament. Incidently the old testament is the same for the jewish. This is where the Christian nuts and Jewish nuts share their common beliefs.
