    Govournment censorship. Is it effective.

After viewing the ' Fuck you ' song on Fresh Princes thread , I thought I would add a few more You Tube links to similar witty songs that were made against the PAD protesters. I had kept several in my favourites but was surprised that all of them are now listed as withdrawn and the original posters accounts suspended ? So then I started looking for general videos about the PAD protesters but was not so surprised to find that few have survived the censor. Those that have nearly all put the PAD in a good light and portray their airport occupation in a posative light.

Now I'm sure a lot of these videos can be watched outside the kingdom but is this heavy handed censorship bringing the country ever closer to the kind of place where even a light hearted , piss taking song is seen as a serious threat to national security ???

The reds have just brought a lot of critisism upon themselves but is seems to me that all the jingoism surrounding the end of their protest is in danger of letting in a wolf to mind the sheep just because one horny ram was supposedly fucking them all over.

So , just to what degree is all this censorship working ? If even jokes are subversive , will it soon become dangerous for a person to express a contrary view within the earshot of strangers ?

The extreme political censorship is one of the reds gripes. And something that Abhisit has made it clear he has no intention of relaxing.

With opposition radio and TV stations being shut down, even the poorly educated peasants would know they are being fcuked over. Its just adding to the simmering anger and resentment that will no doubt re-emerge in various forms of violent resistance. You can only screw the lid down on a pressure cooker for so long.

Agreed. All the talk about ' reconciliation ' flies in the face of reality. I supposed what Abhisit really means is that anyone who speaks out against the govournment will have to reconcile themselves to being silenced.

Yes, the prevailing censorship means that any reconciliation is just cosmetic - an empty marketing feelgood buzzword.

Not only does the censorship and lese majeste laws need sweeping away, but also the defamation laws are too strict. (Remember how Thaksin would sue journalists).

None of this modernisation seems likely to happen.

As best I can see, the extreme media bias, censorship and forceful closing down of regional radio & TV stations in Thailand only fools Bangkok clerical workers.

    It begs the usual questions-
What are they so scared of?
What do they have to hide?

Probably because they want to be fooled for some obscure reason best know to themselves. I thought it was bad enough when Prachatai went under, but to selectively delete light hearted ( as well as serious ) You Tube videos demonstrates how fearful and insecure the govournment is.
