Reading both John Pilger and John Simpson, I get the feeling they have been in war zones too long. They need to get out, get some fresh air and let some new reporters do their job.

Innocent until proven guilty.
The film is handed over to the BBC by the same people who are setting off bombs in crowded areas, markets, mosques, religious parades.
The BBC (and the press) has a duty to ask why and to question the report before splattering it all over the world's TV Screens.
Shoddy reporting.
^
"Shoddy reporting"?
More "shoddy reporting" from the Iraqi police:It has been cross-checked with other images taken at the time of events and is believed to be genuine.
"Shoddy reporting" from the Iraqi P.M. as well:But a report filed by Iraqi police accused US troops of rounding up and deliberately shooting 11 people in the house, including five children and four women, before blowing up the building.
Violence against civilians was "common among many of the multinational forces", he added.
Many troops had "no respect for citizens, smashing civilian cars and killing on a suspicion or a hunch", he added.
^^ Itchy has a point we must not ignore.
These allegations are very powerful in the media and propaganda, and recruting war.
And in the war of "public opinion."
I didn't support the war, you did, so why are you not there Mr Armchair Hero ?Originally Posted by Mr Earl
Well it's clear that Americans think the Iraqis are sub-humans and deserve to die. It's not about AQ (they are probably more AQ operatives in the US than in Iraq, and yet we don't see our American friends taking the risk to bomb their civilians to take out a handful of operatives)
They couldn't care less to liberate the Iraqis. It's about "saving face" about the lies to go to war. They are cornered and it's a question of time before they leave the country Saigon style. Defeated.

I don't think this generalisation is fair, B'fly. Sure there are plenty of people, not only in the US, for who Arabs, Pakis, Iraqis are all the same - "Islamists" who need to be taught a lesson, each one a potential terrorist. But I guess the majority like to see the situation resolved in a positive way.
The coalition forces can't just pull out as the US did before in Vietnam. In 'nam the Vietcong were ready to take over, but what's gonna happen in Iraq?
Stay or not stay, I don't see the 'civil war' coming to an end in the near future.
I dont think there is any AQ in Iraq, the sunnis are fighting cos they are minorities and they were still ruling Iraq untill the U.S invaded the country.Well I think now they are AQ cos anyone who fights U.S Troops are terrorists or commies.
^^ agree about the civil war, but I don't about your assumptions of americans tolerance. America is a very racist society, and the majority of americans couldn't care less of the citizens of a third world country. The only positive thing for them would be to declare "victory" as a self-serving ego thing, to show the world how strong and proud they are. Very much needed after the shock of 911.
Butterfly all Americans aint bad. There are people in that country who know the government is doing wrong. They also care about their children, brothers and relatives.
Dont hate all of them.
I didn't say they are all bad. I said the majority is racist and this is a fact. On the surface, americans will sound very reasonable and polite, but scracth the surface and they will tell you a different story. I am not judging if being racist is good or bad, just stating a fact. I lived there long enough to know what I am talking about, and I can assure you than a number of americans, not always part of the majority, agrees with me. Some don't even hide it.
What I am saying, is that Iraqis are regarded as animals by the US population and they couldn't care less of them. Sad but true. I don't have a problem with Americans regarding the rest of world as third world, but I have a problem when they claim otherwise and still treat third world citizens as meat like they do in this war.

The USA is the biggest melting pot of humanity on the planet. The diversity is one of americas' strengths. Trying to say all americans are cut from the same cloth is supreme ignorance and shows a remarkable level of unsophistication.
Butterfly I suggest you go back to school and learn your abc's all over again!
claims that American soldiers rounded up and shot 11 unarmed civilians, including five children — one only six months old — and four women, in the town of Ishaqi in March.http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article...208902,00.htmlNouri al-Maliki, the Iraqi Prime Minister, accused US troops of habitually killing unarmed civilians. He said that violence against civilians by coalition troops was a “daily phenomenon” and that many troops “do not respect the Iraqi people. They crush them with their vehicles and kill them just on a suspicion or a hunch.”
what percentage of american troops could be classified as uneducated thugs in uniform - though it is not just an american problem .
Yes for the majority, in a very ignorant and unsophisticated way I might add. A few muslim extremists strike America, they are all arab terrorists, let's profile them.Originally Posted by Mr Earl

The diversity is superficial. It does exist but at the core, the majority believe in an "american" identity, mainly entertained by certain mythsOriginally Posted by Mr Earl

"diversity is superficial" classic nonsense. Like I said in the previous post: got back to school. You need fundamental reeducation.Originally Posted by Butterfly
I never heard of any "massacres" by the US army in WW2 in Germany.
Maybe that's because they didn't do much fighting then, but breezed in towards the end of it to be celebrated.
^ well it was a harder battle and I am sure they were a few incidents. But here we have bored Marines shooting at anything because too scared too "liberate" the country properly like they should

I don't know if a lot are thugs, but many don't seem to question what they're told, nor read up on what they're doing.Originally Posted by baldrick

They happened and there were some nasty fights. Look at the casualty figures! But back then they kept a tighter leash on the press and/or were able to keep the really embarrassing shit quiet.Originally Posted by stroller
Also when casualties are being counted by the hundreds of thousands I would suppose a little ugliness slips by like the murder of prisoners might be more likely to be overlooked in the chaos.
Also today the media goes into a feeding frenzy over anything negative about the US in Iraq.
We've seen how they jump the gun time and time again.
It's starting to look like they jumped the gun on this story too!
