Some Photos of PAD at the Airport

This is an email sent to me tonight and just shows what went on during the siege at the airport some good phots

This one is my favourite. Lots of very good pictures there, it's easy to see why a lot of them did not reach the media. Thanks for sharing.

For the life of me, I still can't fathom the people who brought children into the airport, or even the rallies outside of government house. Sure, things didn't get too ugly at the airport but they very easily could have. What the fvck's a baby going to do in that mess? How are you going to take care of your children in a fog of tear gas? Jesus.

And did they ever find out who that corpse at Don Muang was?

When you look at the protesters, you see a combination of seemingly normal folk- shopkeepers and so on, and paramilitary thugs.

The last thing we will see is this fact being discussed on ASTV, but I can't help suspect that several of the 'normal' folk there must have been mindful of this, and perhaps having second thoughts on exactly what it was they were getting involved with.

Certainly the PAD numbers diminished as the occupation of Parliament house continued- it remains the fact that, in one rally in Chiang Mai, the UDD eclipsed anything the PAD ever achieved in numbers. Anecdotally at least, it also appears the PAD employed more and more paramilitary hired Thugs as the whole thing dragged on- and it is well known that they were being paid- and less 'normal' people. It is these people who may well turn out to have been the biggest Stooges of all.

The UDD's attack of the PAD in Issan was what forced the PAD to hire guards, they were a peaceful movement before that incident and since the police stood back and watched the UDD beat the peaceful protesters with clubs and axes and did nothing what choice did the PAD have to defend themselves? Once you are forced to hire thugs controlling their actions is not so easy considering they are being attaced first. Look at the UDD's mind set from the first unprovoked attack of the PAD to their attack of MP's.

I don't agree with the PAD's actions as I think Thais deserve the crooks they vote for as do the citizens of every democratic nation. However I am open minded to cause and effect, in an enviroment where the police who are sworn to protect you don't you need to protect yourself.

The Bangkok Pundit has an article on the Montreal Protocol. "Protocol for the Suppression of Unlawful Acts of Violence at Airports Serving International Civil Aviation, Montreal 1988" and Protocol 2 dealing with the "Suppression of unlawful acts of violence at airports serving international civil aviation" - Thailand is (PDF) a signatory.

    Bangkok Pundit: Montreal

BP: Food for thought given the armed weapons and attacks on police near the airport (was this on airport grounds?) and numerous other bombs that went off.

    h/t to the long-time reader.

I think the some of the photos answers his question

Yeah right, the PAD was there to try and peacefully incite war about some Temple. The local people didn't like war and beat the crap out of them.

I don't think they were trying to incite war as it would not be to their benefit. However they were stirring up nationalism to boost their numbers. Regardless of there motive the UDD had no right to physically attack peaceful demonstrators. It only played into the hands of the PAD by reaffirming how unsophisticated people from the North East are and got them more sympathy for their cause.

I rather trust unsophisticated people from the North and the North East than the so called sophisticated PAD.

Looks to me like they are trying to stop a fight, unless you have some evidence to the contrary.

Stirring up nationalism and hatred with at least the risk of having a local armed conflict is not peaceful demonstrating. The locals just defended their livelihood.

Thanks Mid. I suspected they must have been some sort of stimulant to give the warriors strength or courage for the battle. Oh dear.
