    Michael Bloomberg (I)

He's not an official Independent (I) at the moment but the potential is there for a run. If he does run, we'll likely know next month.

Bloomberg closer to running for president

New York City mayor encouraged by unsettled 2008 field

And Mr. Bloomberg himself has become more candid in conversations with friends and associates about his interest in running, according to participants in those conversations. Despite public denials, the mayor has privately suggested several scenarios in which he might be a viable candidate: for instance, if the opposing major party candidates are poles apart, like Mike Huckabee, a Republican, versus Barack Obama or John Edwards as the Democratic nominee.

A final decision by Mr. Bloomberg about whether to run is unlikely before February.

He should just stay out rather than slide in now. But I guess you'd expect any businessman to monopolize on there being no real Republican candidate. He probably will jump in at the last minute avoiding all the media. If he's going to join a third party why doesn't he just get rid of the Republican title. I can't see why a party of national unity needs candidates from the two parties. Why not just become new candidates from a new party. It's all BS in my view. They're all sick people!

He's conducting polling. If runs, he'll be an Independent. Perhaps in a tight state, he'll peel some votes away from a GOPer. Hard to say. Hard to say if he'll run.

Nearly every day a tiny new development trickles out from the stealth presidential campaign of Michael R. Bloomberg, the billionaire mayor of New York.

He has talked with Chuck Hagel and Sam Nunn, potential running mates. He has delivered a tart critique of the presidential field. He is conducting intricate polling to test his appeal in all 50 states.

Mr. Bloomberg’s dalliance with the idea of running for president has stretched on and on, with his enthusiastic approval despite the public denials. But even before actually entering the contest, Mr. Bloomberg may have already risked losing something: people’s patience.

I'm not sure why Chuck Hagel would play 2nd fiddle to someone like Bloomberg. Hagel, an anti-war, pro-privacy conservative would probably mop the floor with all of the candidates out there. He's similar to Ron Paul, but less rigid, more charismatic and more centrist. A mystery why he's not running.
