Sometimes length is a plus in SC. Especially when expressing one's opinion.

Doubt will happen in the foreseeable future as well but if and when it happens will have a detremental global impact as it did in the 1930s.

True. The closest thing to the Communism envisioned by Marx would possibly be in an Israeli Kibbutz.

Yup - and it wouldn't be a matter or ruling ver anyone or anything - Russia has more than enough land. Suicidal? I don't think so - the US wouldn't 'retaliate as Russia a would then throw whatever they have at them - the old mutual destruction defense.

A mad man? Nah, too many checks and balances for that . . . but someone with supreme power - that kind of power exists in two countries and neither of them is the US.

This is not a whitewash of the US - they've certainly caused more deaths and chaos outside their own borders than anyone else (possibly everyone else) since the 1950s, so OhNo, Klongdick and Skidmark can save their whataboutism.

The question Hal raised is contemporary and though the US could cause far more military and economic damage than the other two they won't. Limit it to economic and it depends on the regional impact . . . and to think China controls the world economy and can use that to go amok is wrong - too may unemployed in China and the regime will topple.

Then I have to ask Why then ?

Europe pushing too far east and getting involved in etnic conflicts ?

Because that's the only option I can see

There are so many russian minorities living in the former soviet countries, that a rusian reaction could come...tomorrow.

All it takes is someone to massacre the folks in a village inhabited by etnic russians and Putin has an excuse/is forced to intervene.

That is how war is created

Indeed . . . and he'd do it. It wouldn't even take another country or its citizens to do it, as history has proven

If a country wants a war, they will have one even if they invent a reason aka an incident. I was nearby and had a shipmate involved in one of such "incident" which was immediately followed by a declaration of war.

No, would you like to make up some more shit . . . or do please post a quote where I did. Ah, Klongdick . . . as good as Pravda

Why not be a good coffin-dodger and go stand in the corner with Skidmark, he has a liking for you - instead of addressing the issue, you have that in common

Between Klongdick and his vivid imagination/jokes and OhNo and his child-abuse jokes . . . totalitarian societies really develop the cream of the crop

Frankfurt - What about global democracy? And the influence of which countries threatens democracy in Germany? The answers to these questions are provided by the Democracy Perseption Index (DPI) of the market research institute Latana. Since 2018, the institute has interviewed more than 50,000 people annually from 53 countries around the world. Among them 1009 Germans. The survey is considered representative of about two-thirds of the world's population and is the largest democracy study in the world. The client is the Alliance of Democracies Foundation, which is founded by Anders Fogh Rasmussen, former NATO Secretary General and former Prime Minister of Denmark. The non-profit organization says it is committed to "promoting democracy and free markets around the world."

The survey, conducted in the spring of 2021, shows that just over 36 percent of Germans see US influence as a threat to democracy. The population in Germany therefore considers the US to be more threatening on this issue than, for example, China (33 percent) or Russia (29 percent). Us influence on global democracy is also viewed more critically. At 51 percent, one in two respondents expressed concerns. Just over 32 percent are positive about the influence of the United States.

Maybe because the US has been occupying Germany with 43,000 troops since the surrender ?

I reckon that poll would have been up to around 80-85% if taken in 1942.
