Glenn Greenwald blasts The New York Times over Hunter Biden laptop admission

Journalist Glenn Greenwald blasted The New York Times Wednesday after it finally confirmed the authenticity of Hunter Biden's infamous laptop in a report focused on the investigation into his taxes and international business dealings.

In the report, The Times noted that prosecutors examined emails between Biden and some business associates that "appear[] to have come from a laptop abandoned by Mr. Biden in a Delaware repair shop" and "were authenticated by people familiar with them and with the investigation."

In a new Substack post, Greenwald argued that The Times', as well as other liberal media outlets', desperation to prevent former President Trump from being re-elected amounted to "one of the most successful disinformation campaigns in modern electoral history" that denied millions of Americans the chance to hear reporting on Joe Biden in the run-up to the 2020 presidential election.

"One of the most successful disinformation campaigns in modern American electoral history occurred in the weeks prior to the 2020 presidential election," Greenwald wrote.

"On October 14, 2020 — less than three weeks before Americans were set to vote — the nation's oldest newspaper, The New York Post, began publishing a series of reports about the business dealings of the Democratic frontrunner Joe Biden and his son, Hunter, in countries in which Biden, as Vice President, wielded considerable influence (including Ukraine and China) and would again if elected president," he added.

Greenwald noted that the backlash against The Post's reporting was "immediate and intense," and began the suppression of the story by corporate media outlets and Big Tech.

He added that the "disinformation campaign" against The Post's reporting was led by then-Politico reporter Natasha Bertrand, who published a piece headlined, "Hunter Biden story is Russian disinfo, dozens of former intel officials say."

"These ‘former intel officials’ did not actually say that the ‘Hunter Biden story is Russian disinfo.’ Indeed, they stressed in their letter the opposite: namely, that they had no evidence to suggest the emails were falsified or that Russia had anything to do them, but, instead, they had merely intuited this ‘suspicion’ based on their experience," Greenwald wrote, citing a line from the letter included in the Politico article that the former officials didn't have any evidence of Russian involvement.

"But a media that was overwhelmingly desperate to ensure Trump's defeat had no time for facts or annoying details such as what these former officials actually said or whether it was in fact true. They had an election to manipulate," Greenwald added. "As a result, that these emails were ‘Russian disinformation’ … became an article of faith among the U.S.'s justifiably despised class of media employees."

Greenwald wrote that "virtually every media outlet," including CNN, NBC News, PBS and the Huffington Post, ignored the substance of The Post's reporting and "spread the lie" that it was Russian disinformation.

He added that Big Tech use the media's disinformation campaign to justify their "censorship" of any reporting or discussion of the story, and described it as "easily the most severe case of pre-election censorship in modern American political history."

"What this means is that, in the crucial days leading up to the 2020 presidential election, most of the corporate media spread an absolute lie about The New York Post's reporting in order to mislead and manipulate the American electorate," Greenwald wrote, while noting that the Big Tech censorship was based on a "lie" from the former intelligence officials.

"It means that millions of Americans were denied the ability to hear about reporting on the candidate leading all polls to become the next president, and instead were subjected to a barrage of lies about the provenance (Russia did it) and authenticity (disinformation!) of these documents," he added.

Perhaps he's too stupid to understand the meaning of the phrase "chain of custody" when it comes to what he would love to call "evidence".

Or perhaps the fact that this non-story is only to be found in the fictional news simulations of Murdoch lackies suggests no-one really gives a shit.

Only skidmark thinks Hunter Biden's fucking laptop matters for shit.

    It doesn't.

Of course the Republicans know it's bollocks, but it's like their imaginary "caravans".

Hunter Biden, the 53-year-old son of President Biden, was charged Tuesday with illegally possessing a handgun in 2018 and failure to timely file and pay taxes in 2017 and 2018, according to a court filing by the U.S. Attorney in Delaware.

Driving the news: Hunter has agreed to plead guilty to the two tax misdemeanors. He will also enter a probation agreement on the gun charge that, if violated, would mean prosecution for illegally possessing the firearm while being a drug user.

Hunter is a political liability for his dad. Republicans will spin Hunter's problems to somehow accuse dad of misdeeds. More to come.

He didn't pay 100K USD in taxes over two years? I would say that deserves jail time.

Hunter Biden has settled his child support case in Arkansas, according to a court filing released Thursday.

The settlement, announced in Arkansas state court, ends a bitter dispute between President Joe Biden’s younger son and Lunden Roberts, the mother of their 4-year-old child, over reducing his child support payments.

The settlement ends the yearslong dispute between the younger Biden and Roberts, which started when Roberts filed a lawsuit in 2019 seeking child support and health care for her child, who she claimed was Biden’s. After a paternity test proved Biden was the child’s father, he agreed in 2020 to pay $20,000 a month in child support.

Though it was unclear from the filing what the new payments will be, the president’s son will “assign to the child” some of his paintings, “which shall vary in size with a minimum size of 24x24.” The number of paintings along with the new amount for the child support payments were both redacted from the filing.

Additionally, “the child shall select the painting which shall either be sent to the child” or to a gallery designated by Roberts, the filing says.

The New York City gallery exhibiting Hunter Biden’s work in 2021 estimated his paintings to be worth between $75,000 and $500,000 apiece — numbers that previously raised concerns about the possibility that someone would buy the art as a way to curry favor with the Biden family. The younger Biden took up painting while recovering from drug and alcohol addiction.

    • Scoop: Hunter Biden's lawyer roasts IRS whistleblowers in message to GOP chair

Hunter Biden's lawyer sent a blistering letter Friday to the Republican chair of the House Ways and Means Committee, accusing him of trying to undermine the law and feeding "the misinformation campaign to harm our client, Hunter Biden, as a vehicle to attack his father."

Why it matters: The White House has been struggling to answer questions about the IRS agent transcripts over the past week, but Hunter's lawyer Abbe Lowell is now taking the lead in fighting back against the Republican-led committee.

    • The letter comes after Chair Jason Smith last week released transcripts of interviews with two IRS agents who claimed that the investigation into Hunter Biden was improperly handled along with a purported WhatsApp message that showed Hunter leveraging his father to close a business deal.
    • The White House and Justice Department rebuffed the whistleblowers' claims about meddling last week.
    • Hunter Biden agreed to plead guilty to two counts of not filing and paying taxes. He also entered a diversionary agreement on a felony gun charge.
    • “It’s little surprise that Hunter Biden’s attorneys are attempting to chill our investigation and discredit the whistleblowers who say they have already faced retaliation from the IRS and the Department of Justice despite statutory protections established by law," said Smith in a statement.

What he's saying: Lowell suggests the IRS agents interviewed may be claiming the title of whistleblower "in an attempt to evade their own misconduct" and clams that the "timing of the agents’ leaks and your subsequent decision to release their statements do not seem innocent."

    • He also slams Smith for posting screenshots of an alleged WhatsApp conversation, saying, "The screen-grab images you posted are not real and contain myriad of issues....In short, the images you circulated online are complete fakes."
    • Lowell pointed to Hunter Biden's profile picture in the message being a photo from 2022, five years after the 2017 message was allegedly sent.

The big picture: House Republicans were outraged by Hunter Biden's plea deal, and have pushed forward with their aggressive investigations into the president's son.

    • The released testimony of an IRS agent has added fuel to the fire.
    • Smith has now joined forces with House Oversight Chair James Comer and House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan.
    • On Thursday, the trio sent letters to top officials at the DOJ, IRS and Secret Service demanding interviews.

100 thousand is a drop in the bucket. Stiff penalties on late payments is where the government can make some money as opposed to incarcerating someone which would cost US tax payers.

Republicans have heralded Luft as a whistleblower in the Hunter Biden laptop probe.

Luft faces up to 100 years in prison

The head of a U.S. think tank who has repeatedly accused President Biden and his family of corruption has been charged with acting as an unregistered agent of China, Manhattan prosecutors announced Monday evening.

Gal Luft, co-director of the Maryland-based Institute for the Analysis of Global Security, is accused of recruiting and paying an unnamed former high-ranking U.S. government official on behalf of principals based in China in 2016, without registering as a foreign agent, which is legally required.

The former high-ranking official was an advisor to then President-elect Trump and was allegedly paid to publicly support certain policies pertaining to China, according to the 58-page, eight-count indictment unsealed Monday.

Manhattan prosecutors also allege Luft attempted to broker illicit arms deals to sell weapons to countries including Libya, the United Arab Emirates and Kenya without having a license to do so, as is legally required in the U.S.

And Luft is accused of violating Iran sanctions by setting up meetings between Iranian officials and a Chinese energy company to discuss oil deals. When interviewed by U.S. law enforcement, Luft allegedly made false statements regarding his role brokering those deals.

“As alleged, the defendant engaged in multiple schemes to evade sanctions and laws intended to protect our national security,” Christie M. Curtis, FBI acting assistant director in charge, said in the press release. “The FBI is determined to defend our nation by enforcing laws designed to promote transparency of foreign influence within the United States.”

A dual citizen of the U.S. and Israel, Luft was arrested on Feb. 17 in Cyprus, but fled after being released on bail and remains a fugitive, the Justice Department said in a press release.

In a video first published by the New York Post, Luft made bribery allegations against the Biden family and called himself “patient zero of the Biden family investigation.”

He claims in the video that he was arrested to prevent him from testifying before the House Oversight Committee on shady Biden family business dealings. He also claims he shared his allegations with FBI and DOJ officials during a March 2019 meeting, which he said they covered up.

Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., chairman of the Oversight Committee, called Luft a “very credible witness on Biden family corruption” in a tweet last week. Comer and other Republicans have heralded Luft as a whistleblower in the Hunter Biden laptop probe.

Luft faces up to 100 years in prison if convicted of all eight counts and sentenced to the maximum amount of prison time, though such a sentence is unlikely.

Oh dear, Hunter's plea deal has collapsed.

And worse, Daddy's thrown him under a bus.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on Thursday dismissed the possibility of President Biden issuing a pardon for his son Hunter Biden, who is facing ongoing legal problems related to a federal investigation, as well as two counts of willful failure to pay federal income tax.
"No," Jean-Pierre simply said when Fox News' Mark Meredith asked during the daily White House press briefing whether there was any possibility Biden would end up pardoning his son.
She interrupted an attempted following up question saying, "I just said no," before moving on to another reporter.
