Polygamy 101 - Inside Indonesia's controversial training seminars preparing Muslims

Day long training courses are being offered to Indonesian Muslims interested in polygamy.

A club dedicated to promoting polygamy in Indonesia is actively touting "a quick way to have four wives" through classes across the country that cost hundreds of dollars.

    Key points:

    • Topics covered at the school include how to acquire four wives as well as how to avoid divorce
    • Supporters of the practice defend it as being in line with Islamic teachings
    • Critics say polygamy is "psychologically and economically" harmful to wives

Though experts say most Indonesians find the idea of polygamous marriage objectionable, there is strong support for the practice in some sections of society.

The Indonesian Polygamy Forum (FP Indonesia) is capitalising on interest among conservative Muslim men in taking multiple wives by offering one-day seminars that claim to prepare their clients for polygamous marriage.

The organisation said it even provides a same-day marriage service for seminar attendees deemed ready to enter into a polygamous marriage.

I think most blokes struggle with keeping one woman happy, (except Lulu of course). Why invite more grief in to your life?

Years ago a Saudi Arabian friend died of cancer. My wife thought that we should go to a Masjid and say some prayers for him (he liked to drink beer and chase women, so he probably needed a few good words to get right with Allah!). We went to a Masjid somewhere near the Khlong Saen Seb and the Imam there chatted with us for a bit, said a prayer for our friend and them suggested that we have lunch together at a small restaurant that was nearby.

While we were eating (Thai Muslim food is delicious!) he tried to convert me to Islam. He pointed out that as a Muslim I could have up to 4 wives! In fact, the cute hijabi girl who who was serving us would probably be up for being wife #2! Despite the girl smiling at me in agreement, I politely turned down the offer.

Brunei enacts Islamic laws to punish gay sex with stoning to death — here's what you need to know

Polygamy 101 - Inside Indonesia's controversial training seminars preparing Muslims-10963786-3x2-700x467-jpg

The tiny nation of Brunei introduced severe penalties for gay sex and adultery — stoning to death and whipping — despite global condemnation.

    Key points:
    • Same-sex relations, adultery and rape can be punished by stoning or whipping in Brunei
    • The wealthy Sultan of Brunei is introducing the laws after more than 50 years in power
    • Observers believe the Government wants to keep citizens in line as the economy falters

Made up of two small slivers of land on the island of Borneo, the oil-rich country of about 400,000 people is ruled by the extravagantly wealthy Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, who also acts as Prime Minister.

Interestingly the article says it's mostly men who attend these courses and then shows a pic featuring only women.

Le Plaza Athenee in Paris is one of nine luxury hotels linked to the Sultan of Brunei.

A bunch of luxury hotels owned by Brunei's royal family are putting their social media pages on lockdown after a celebrity backlash against the kingdom's introduction of Sharia Law including a death penalty for gay sex.

    Key points:

    • A number of celebrities have called on Sultan-owned hotels to be boycotted over the introduction of a death penalty for gay sex
    • The hotel group deactivated their social media accounts over "personal abuse directed at our employees"
    • Some hotels have had to defend themselves after being mistakenly confused for a Brunei-linked property

Celebrities like George Clooney and Elton John led a boycott of the Dorchester Collection hotel chain, which is owned by the Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah.

The Brunei Investment Company owns nine hotels across the US and Europe, including the Beverly Hills Hotel, the Plaza Athenee and Le Meurice in Paris, The Dorchester and 45 Park Lane in London, and Hotel Eden in Rome.

Got to say that HM the Sultan has got steadily more hard line over the past 10 years. I have met him 4 times over 20 or so years and the first three times were receptions in which alcohol was served but the last it was banned under Islamic principles. On visits to Brunei over the years I have noticed a gradual increase and enforcement of Islamic Principles and Laws; I strongly suspect that his playboy brother Jefri (c40+ "wives") who he had a major falling out over lifestyle and the Billions he blew (he of naming his Yacht tenders Nipple 1&2) has not helped and perhaps as he approaches the end of his life he wants to make doubly sure he's good to go with the Virgins etc. Funnily enough a lot of the indigenous Malays and Malay Chinks/Indians i've spoken to and known over the years only really follow Islam publicly - they love trips across the border to Miri to get pissed, gamble etc and welcome invites to Brit parties in which they can "indulge" on the QT.

Nah! It’s just a measure of his indifference to your constant moaning. I think the people who don’t matter, (us), don’t care.
