Canada’s boreal forest, known as the Amazon of the North, is being cut down to make toilet paper — threatening our climate, Indigenous communities, and the iconic boreal caribou.

Tell David S. Taylor, CEO of Charmin’s parent company Procter & Gamble, to move toward a more sustainable model and stop flushing away our forests!

Dear Mr. Taylor,

As a consumer concerned about our environment, I was upset to learn that Charmin toilet paper is still being sourced from 100 percent virgin trees, many of them from Canada's boreal forest. It's appalling that no recycled material is used to make Charmin.

Not only does the Canadian boreal forest store vast amounts of carbon, it's also home to hundreds of Indigenous communities and to the iconic boreal caribou.

It's unconscionable that majestic, old-growth trees are being cut down to make a product that's used once, then flushed down the toilet.

Procter & Gamble has the power to change this destructive paradigm on a massive scale by reducing the virgin pulp content in its products and increasing the use of recycled materials. P&G should also involve Indigenous communities in sourcing decisions, act to protect caribou habitat, and take other important steps toward sustainability.

Please move quickly to ensure that your products don't come at the cost of this globally important ecosystem.

It has to be admitted that despite the very good "invention" and extensive use of bum gun in Thailand - or a water splash of any other means - there is also an extensive consume of the toilet paper.

The large rolls of the thin paper in the public facilities (airports, dept. stores) that dissolves without any trace on your fingers in the moment you touch it trying to pull out few meters in order to dry up your hands...

Or the funny small pink tissues in the restaurants and food stalls, you need the whole package to wipe up the chicken remains from your hand, later , once you reach your car, still finding few pieces sticking to your fingers ...

Similar problems with the "modern" folding plastic dispenser distributed by the tissue company, filled in with thin transparent tissues...

Even the regular rolls for home available in hundreds of sorts - however when initiating the glued first layers, you need to cut it thru, then search for the correct pair of the layers...

That all instead of rather an easy use of a comfortable kitchen roll towel paper that is not much well known...

The enormous demand for this kind of thin paper needs not only a lot of wood but also a lot of good water and a lot of bad waste water ...

Waste paper is being shipped from the US and Europe to Indonesia to make cardboard boxes for all the on-line shoppers.

Yes use a bum gun. Although when i lived in Canada my tap water was at about 40 degrees F so it would have been a bit cold on the extremities.

Years ago I was watching a kids program with my nippers. It explained where all the poo went after you flushed the toilet.
There followed a recycling project of massive proportions to turn your flushed poo into fertilizer and drinking water.

Strange I have worked in the paper industry in Canada. None our forest had any indigenous communities that i know of and no caribou. The odd moose maybe but no caribou.

While we cant know for sure ... NRDC is run by a group of lawyers so unlikely they would risk libel laws against the bottomless legal pockets of Procter & Gamble, without first having all their ducks in a row.

As a matter of fact, the timber ("Hi-Tech") export to China is one of the few lucrative businesses of USA (beside the weaponry), helping them to fill up some of the millions of empty containers having to be returned to China for re-filling with a majority of merchandise needed in the US stores.
