Online advertisement seeking 'Caucasian' men to play Santa taken down

An online advertisement for "Caucasian mature age men" to play the role of Father Christmas in suburban shopping centres in Adelaide has been removed from a job website following criticism online.

Key points:

• An ad requesting Caucasian men apply to be Father Christmas was posted online
• The ad attracted criticism after appearing on a popular jobseeker website
• It has since been removed from the website

The advertisement — that appears to be on behalf of entertainment agency Essential Talent — was posted on job seeker websites Indeed and Seek and offered a pay range of $40 to $50 an hour.

"We are looking for Caucasian mature age men to play the role of Father Christmas," the ad posted to Indeed.com said.

It also asked those interested to send in a "photo and any relevant previous experience to be considered for an interview".

The same ad at Seek.com.au did not state ethnicity and asked for "people with a great personality for casual work as Santa in shopping centres".

Actually, my understanding is that the image we recognise as 'Santa' came from Coke-Cola from the 1920's

I say "useless" because, as per my previous post, what does Santa's skin colour matter to the job?
It's fine to require a certain race for some roles. An actor playing Martin Luther King, for instance would understandably be required to be black. But Santa is a myth and only put in department stores to humour the kids. Why does he have to be white?

I wonder how the same people who are nodding approval over a black father Christmas in a European country would react if Brad Pit played the part of Martin Luther King jnr. Or Stallone playing Mohammed Ali. The myth of Father Christmas is a European based myth meant for the entertainment of children. Some people need to get a life. If other cultures wish to participate in their own country they can have a Black/Chinese/Indian/Arab father Christmas and good luck to them.
