Couple things I see result from the EU election.
The days of rubber stamp passage of EU legislation are over. Germany and France centrist party (Merkel/Macron) domination are over. Passing legislation will be much more difficult.
In all EU countries the traditional majority parties failed to understand the issues their electorates really care about. Immigration and the environment.
Specific to the UK the Tories have made a total botch of it. Big losses for sure next UK election. Labour better shit or get off the pot re immigration or they to will take a beating.
Agree but think remainers majority.
"Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect,"
Not disputing that 2/3 SNP voters for remain in referendum. I'd imagine a similar figure for Greens maybe even a bit higher but many people make the false assumption that all SNP and Green voters are remainers.
Support in Scotland for leave is falling and that is a sure sign that remain is hardening.
Leave got 52% of the referendum votes and 66% of those voted for the Brexit party in the EU election, ie 34.9%
Leave got 37% of the referendum votes in Scotland but only 45% of those voted for the Brexit party, ie 16.6%. They should have got around 25%.
This was an election for MEPs not another referendum as has already been pointed out 1/3 of SNP voters voted leave in the referendum. Parties advocating remain got 62% in the EU elections versus 63% in the referendum so support for remain is largely the same if want to use those figures which dont tell the full story.
MORE than one third of SNP supporters voted for Britain to leave the European Union, new research suggests today. [7th December 2016]
A report by the National Centre for Social Research[NatCen] said the snapshot of 1,391 people between September 22 and October 24 showed the same proportion, 36 per cent, of Nationalist supporters as Labour voters voted for Leave.
It also said all parties with the exception of Ukip saw a "significant" proportion of their backers vote against their leaders' advice. Even 26 per cent of supporters of the pro-European Liberal Democrats voted Leave, it claimed.

I doubt any SNP supporter would have voted leave in the referendum. Being part of Europe is the bedrock of the SNP vision for an independant Scotland. The two go hand in hand. There are groups like Radical Independance who are very left wing and dont support the SNP or the EU but still want independance. They get very little mainstream support however
Labour’s Chuka Umunna, who chairs the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Social Integration, said the Remain campaign's heavy reliance on economic arguments "was not going to work when so many middle and lower-income families already felt the economy was not working for them".
[From the same article as my post above ^^]
Seems simple Sybil hasn't suffered enough embarrassment and humiliation for one day and is back for more. Best not tell him about the treaty of Lisbon and what comes into effect in 2020 if want to save him from making an even bigger tit of himself.
Ah yeah, my comment makes it soo obvious that I don't know about the treaty of Lisbon, doesn't it?
Christ you're such an utterly pointless wanker that it's almost impressive.
Clearly it does, bit like not knowing the difference between the debt and deficit, just another of the many examples of what a thick twat you are. Warwick makes a totally reasonable point then you start going on about bananas in reply as you are totally incapable of debating any point with anyone on any subject. Again how the fuck are you supposedly an educator?
Disagreeing with you makes people ignorant.
Such is the laughably inflated opinion you have of yourself.
You just invent shit that people have supposedly posted and reply "Ha Ha! You said that".
The latest example being me saying merely that not everyone agrees being members of the EU means being 'ruled by Brussels'
Do you actually reject that?
You do realise it's a matter of opinion, right?
Do you think "Ha! Ha! The cvnt doesn't know about the treaty of Lisbon!" is an adult response?
It's like watching a malevolent five-year-old misbehaving at play group...and you've been at it for the entire day now.
Have I not made it clear to you numerous times that you are a tedious boring twat who offers nothing, seemingly has no even basic knowledge or understanding on any subject and you offer nothing other than sniping you will be get responded to as the tedious pointless twat you are. Is highly amusing though that anytime you do try to enter into a discussion your lack of basic knowledge is exposed and you make a total tit of yourself time and time again. Probably goes some way to explain why 99% of your posts and pointless tedious one liners.
I haven't invented anything you've said it's all here written down in this thread. You truly are one sad pathetic individual.
Ha Ha Ha Ha...you just showed you have no idea of the opportunities Hungary, Poland and the UK see to extend national sovereignty in that area.
You utter cvnt.
Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha.
girls, please
fun days ahead, Barnier is the contender
EU Commission: France and Germany differ on Brussels' top job
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-48431083
Signs of disagreement have emerged between France and Germany as EU leaders meet following elections that shifted the balance in parliament.
The talks are a chance to assess the new political landscape and consider candidates for the EU's top jobs.
But the leaders of France and Germany have already suggested different figures to take over the key role of EU Commission president.
The vote saw the big centrist blocs lose their majority for the first time.
Nationalists, liberals and Greens all gained ground, leaving the EU more fragmented and the possibility of finding consensus more distant.
Democracy at work EU style, Germany and France to a lesser extent will decide who the next EU president is.
can't be the Brits, that's for sure. You can't even select your own PM
Some of these comments are bewildering; a mixture of denial and cognitive dissonance.
Let's offer a simple fact: the six week old Brexit party is the largest national group in the European Parliament.
Let's offer another fact: the Brexit party won the majority of votes in region after region, dominating. The one quarter of the regions they didn't win in, they still scored highly and won seats.
Let's offer another fact that contains a group of facts: leave won the referendum, a leave party won the general election and a leave party won the EU parliamentary elections. Leave is winning time after time when it is put to a vote despite three big factors against them: the London dominated political establishment are remain; the London based media are heavily remain biased; known voter bias of 15 to 20 percent is for status quo because people are afraid of change.
This is just a list of known facts.
Anybody who believes that the majority of British people want to remain in the EU is just ignoring these known facts.
