California has a bigger GDP than the UK. It should break away from the dead weight of redneck American Fuckwitzville and join the EU in replacement of the UK which could then substitute itself for the new Trump cocksucker state of Engerlandia. The Engerlanders could be a valuable resource in cleaning sewers, picking fruit and stacking shelves in Walmart.
Har, har.
I was going to offer this as an example of the pandora's box that a Calexit would open.Originally Posted by Polo

Californians - including Californians of Mexican descent and even those who immigrated in their lifetime are tired of ILLegals and want an end to sanctuary cities.
They would not want to be a part of Mexico for the obvious reason. They would have to pay a lot to the Mexican govt, a govt which is high on the corruption index, has about 47% poverty, a very bad crime problem, and is sadly a narco-state in not only certain areas, but entire states.
I lived and travelled the States for a decent time.
Two places I'd like to live ...
Boulder Colorado
and
San Diego CA
But that was a couple of decades ago and i know that places change.
BTW ... I HATED LA ... no offense intended to the TD LA's ... I just never appreciate your old abode.
.
If California secedes, they'd better hope Colorado joins them or they will be really thirsty.
Along with NV, AZ and UT...
Colorado River Water: Challenges for California
^ Don't forget NM, they are largely Mexican and old world Castellano.
If Scotland or Northern Ireland wishes to secede from the UK, they can- legally, and peacefully. Via Referendum- several have been held, but failed.
If the Quebecois wish to secede from Canada they can- legally and peacefully, via Refendum. Some have been held, but failed.
The USSR dissolved into several, separate constituent states such as the 'stans, Baltic states, Moldavia & Ukraine- legally, and largely peacefully. Crimea (following the Ukrainian coup) has since held a Referendum and chose to recombine with Russia- peacefully.
Yet, when the largely agricultural, plantation based southern states decided to secede from the mainly industrial northern states of the then USA, there was a massive and bloody civil war- that left the south decimated, and harbours much bitterness and resentment to this day. It is the bloodiest war in your history (apart from maybe the decimation/ genocide of the native Americans). And now some people are saying "there is no way we would let California secede".
So would it be true to say then, in contrast with the United Kingdom, Canada and the EU, that the USA is an involuntary union of States?
What effect does that really have on State rights, and what impetus does it provide for the Federal system to keep States that subsidise other, poorer or less well managed states, happy and content?
Initially, joining the union was voluntary...after the Civil War such action became illegal, no matter how much the other 49 would love Texas to secede. It should be noted, however, that the USSR was an empire and not a voluntary union of like-minded peoples. Additionally, how much faith should one put in a Crimean referendum held by the invader to validate its presence? A grain of salt or a ton of salt; up to you.Originally Posted by sabang

There was no invasion, and the Referendum result validates itself. A total of two people died- one on each side, which is regrettable but hardly bloody. Crimea Voted to secede from the post-coup Ukrainian federation (it had it's own Parliament), but was allowed no vote when it was administratively combined with Ukraine at the stroke of a pen, under the auspices of the Khrushchev era USSR. This after being part of Russia for centuries, with a Russian speaking, ethnically Russian population. So the crushing Referendum result was no surprise, after the democratically elected Ukrainian government was overthrown.Originally Posted by tomcat
But California does not have the same Right?
So, like China, the USA is an involuntary union of states. Free Tibet (scoff)!!
Thoroughly propagandised- what a surprise. I'm sure you would prefer the human paradise of eastern Ukraine, to Russia's favored holiday destination.
From wiki:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secess..._United_StatesIn Texas v. White, the United States Supreme Court ruled unilateral secession unconstitutional, while commenting that revolution or consent of the States could lead to a successful secession.
I doubt I'd notice the difference...Originally Posted by sabang
Until you have been with both, withhold judgment. In my experience, both are A+++.
The reason is that they demand a demanding man.
