Trump often sees an American landscape of 'losers' and 'suckers'
WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump moved swiftly in the last few hours to counter The Atlantic's report that he referred to dead American soldiers as "losers" and "suckers" because it has the power to damage his re-election campaign.
"All they are trying to do is influence a presidential campaign," Trump said from under the wing of Air Force One on Thursday night in a rare late-evening tarmac statement to reporters. "We are going to win and they are going crazy."
If he weren't worried, however, he'd have no need to address the reporting.
"What animal would say such a thing?" he asked as he promised to "swear on anything" that he never referred to fallen soldiers so callously. "Everybody knows it's false."
The story is a threat for two reasons: Trump's own record makes it believable, despite his denials — and it undercuts a broader theme that is crucial to his political narrative.
MORE Trump often sees an American landscape of '''losers''' and '''suckers'''
As long as he's fooling most of the people most of the time he doesn't have a problem.
He's used the 'fake news' narrative for so long it has its own power to fool.
As long as there's (perceived) anarchy in the streets he can wave the law and order flag and the idiots will salute it and he's home free.
^ Yup.. Even Fox news reporting it as true.

Trump’s future now at the mercy of Mattis and Kelly if they speak out on ‘loser’ comments: conservative
In a column for the Daily Beast, former Republican Matt Lewis said Donald Trump’s re-election campaign might survive the fallout from his comments about captured and killed American military personnel, where he called them “losers” and ‘suckers,” unless Generals James Mattis and John Kelly decide to go public and reveal what they heard.
As Lewis — who left the GOP due to Trump — notes, the president has survived a multitude of scandals starting back to before he was elected but the disparagement of the troops may be a bridge too far for even his most ardent supporters who consider themselves patriotic Americans.
Writing, “In a sane world, this revelation, on its face, would be devastating for Trump’s re-election chances,” Lewis points out, “the sad truth is that no revelation will matter to conservatives who have already rationalized their Trump support for a variety of reasons, including the premise that this is a tribalistic world and Trump might be a sonofabitch, but he’s our sonofabitch.”
However, he notes, his former secretary of defense and White House chief of staff could set the president’s re-election drive back on its heels in such a way that it may never recover.
“For this report to do more than just mess up a single news cycle for Trump, here’s what should happen: General James Mattis (Trump’s former Secretary of Defense) and General John Kelly (Trump’s former Chief of Staff) should both record commercials that warn Americans about the real Trump,” he suggested. “For this to have maximum potential, it has to be done just right. It has to be them looking in the camera or at an interviewer. It has to reveal new information. It has to connect emotionally. The message can’t be ‘Trump is bad,’ it has to include ‘He’s unfit to be president—and here’s why that matters to you.’ And—maybe most importantly—it has to drop just before the election.”
While questioning whether the two retired generals would agree to come forward in such a manner, the conservative columnist stated that, should it happen, the president might never recover.
“If these allegations are true (and based on everything we know, I’m assuming they are), then Mattis and Kelly will have first-hand knowledge of the details. In that case, it would be their patriotic duty to accept this mission. This would take courage, but isn’t that their whole raison d’être?” he wrote. “The least they can do is make sure Americans know the truth before deciding whether to re-elect a man who (allegedly) calls our heroes ‘suckers.'”

Btw, the loss would have that much greater had it not been for his self-dealing while in office, which is a violation of the emoluments clause of the constitution. This white collared criminal and Putin/Kim wanna-be will end up where he belongs, in a penitentiary with hardcore criminals.

I really cannot see this one going away, and it hits to a significant portion of his base.
This is going to stick in the craw of main line republicans.
Waiting for Lincoln project to get in on this. Going to be brutal.
Boats participating in a Trump support parade sink in Texas, officials say
Several boats taking part in a Trump support parade on Lake Travis in Texas have sunk, officials said Saturday. The Travis County Sheriff's Office tweeted that it responded to multiple calls involving boats in distress during the parade.
"Several boats did sink," the TCSO tweet said.
Kristen Dark, the senior public information officer for the Travis County Sheriff's Office, told CNN that officials were responding to "many emergency calls for boats in distress" and confirmed that several have sunk.
A Facebook page for the event said more than 2,600 people planned to attend.
There was no immediate information on injuries.

A bunch of Trump supporters sinking boats seems to be the perfect analogy for 2020.
Indeed, it does...
As Trump Parade Boats Sink In Texas, So Are The President’s Polling Numbers
On Saturday afternoon, several boats participating in a Texas parade in support of the President were forced to call for assistance after facing choppy waters on Lake Travis near the Texas capital of Austin. While the images of the sinking Trump-flagged ships are no doubt embarrassing, it’s the President's sinking polling numbers that are a greater cause for concern in the White House.
On Saturday afternoon, the Travis County Sheriff’s Officer confirmed via Tweet that it responded to multiple calls for boats in distress on Texas’s Lake Travis during a boat regatta in support of the President. CNN reported that Kristen Dark, the senior public information officer for the Travis County Sheriff's Office, had confirmed that several of the vessels sunk. No injuries were reported.
The boat parade was the latest in a series of boat regattas undertaken in support of the President, and more than 2,600 attendees were expected in for Texas parade. Another regatta was held on the Ohio River between West Virginia and Ohio on Saturday without incident. But past boat parades have frequently drawn local and national attention. For example, in August several upstate New York waterfront owners complained after a pro-Trump boat parade on Lake George purportedly created a wake large enough to damage private docks.
Despite the drama of the sinking pro-Trump boats on Saturday, however, there is another type of sinking that is no doubt capturing the President's and his advisor’s attention.
A recent spate of polling shows that, despite expectations that the President’s campaign numbers might improve following the Republican National Convention, Democratic challenger Joe Biden is maintaining a steady lead in many polls, including in several key battleground states.
Despite the fact that one poll recently showed that President’ Trump’s approval rating is back where it was in late February, at 52%, several polls show that the President is still struggling to gain ground on Joe Biden. In a recent Fox News poll, Biden maintains a commanding lead among likely voters in Arizona, where among likely voters Biden is preferred by a 49% to 40% margin over Trump. In 2016, Trump beat Hillary Clinton in Arizona by 3.5 percentage points. In North Carolina, Biden holds a 4 percentage point lead among likely voters, and in Wisconsin, Biden leads Trump by 8 percentage points among likely voters. Trump carried both states in 2016 in his contest against Hillary Clinton.
The Fox News polls track other polling that shows the post-RNC “virtual” convention bump that the Trump campaign hoped to build on has rapidly slipped. A range of polls show that nationally Biden is leading with a margin of seven or more percentage points. Nonetheless, some polls also show the race tightening. Recent surveys by Monmouth University show a much closer race in North Carolina, and the race in Pennsylvania being close enough that is within the margin of error.
What recent polls haven’t factored in, however, is the recent controversy related to reports by The Atlantic and others that President Trump made condescending remarks about American service members, and the polling also doesn’t factor in recent news of Biden’s enormous fundraising in August, which topped $364 million. Those recent events are sure to shake up the race even further.
With the Labor Day weekend being viewed as the beginning of the stretch run of the presidential election season, there will no doubt be more shifts and surprises in what has already been a historic presidential race. But much like the Trump-supporting boats that took on water in Texas on Saturday, the Trump campaign has a lot of bailing out to do if the President is to be reelected in November.
Indeed, if Saturday’s events are any indicator, the next several months will no doubt be stormy for both candidates. But for Trump and his supporters, the current condition indicates anything but smooth sailing.

Normally I would agree but.....in today's crazy world "the Truth" doesn't matter any more.
The populists are lying away: Bolsanaro, XiPing, Putin, Erdogan, Johnson, LePen, Orban, Lukaschenko, Salvini....sorry the list is too long.
Will Trump get away with it? I'am afraid so!
From Michael Cohen's new book.
Cohen writes that before winning the presidency, Trump held a meeting at Trump Tower with prominent evangelical leaders, where they laid their hands on him in prayer. Afterward, Trump allegedly said: “Can you believe that bulls--t? Can you believe people believe that bulls--t?”
“The cosmic joke was that Trump convinced a vast swathe of working-class white folks in the Midwest that he cared about their well-being,” Cohen writes. “The truth was that he couldn’t care less.”
