    Religion

The resurgence/preponderance of fanatic religious beliefs is a strange twist to a supposedly evolving and progressive society.

How will it all play out?

Maybe we'll all take sides and kill each other.

Or maybe we'll gather at places like Speaker's Corner and work it out as one.

Personally I'm with the Bill Hicks school of thought regarding the likely outcome.

    "We're a virus with shoes"

    It ain’t looking good

Secularism is the only way to approach a truly global community. Nothing wrong whatsoever with personal spiritual beliefs, but to co-exist, global solutions must be found without resort to religion.

If the religious fervor continues to escalate, there can be only one outcome. It will involve beheadings, crucifixions and a return to the Stone Age.

But then again, maybe Bob Marley was right, and “Total Destruction Is the Only Solution” and the Phoenix will always rise stronger from the ashes?

To be fair, I did say "supposedly"

I guess that's the point, we're on a path to de-evolution (if that's not a real word it fucking is now )

Since 1858, five Lewes bonfire societies have annually remembered an horrific martyrdom during the period 1555–1557, known as the Marian Persecutions. In the reign of Edward VI, Mary Tudor, daughter of Henry VIII, came under pressure to abandon her unshakable Catholic views, but when she came to the throne in 1553, in the process of then re-enforcing them, she had no fewer than 288 Protestants burned for their “heretical” views – 17 of these martyrs were burned in Lewes.
