The Russian air campaign is proving far more effective than the US' ever was, and the reason is quite simple- Russian airpower is able to communicate and co-ordinate with the Syrian, Iranian and (perhaps) Russian forces on the ground, whereas American strikes- due to, shall we say, diplomatic constraints, never were. It seems to me a very blinkered policy to place our pseudo alliance with the Sunni Gulf states, with their untrammeled support and sponsoring of Sunni radicalism, above our enmity to IS, AQ and everything they stand for (as well as their sworn enmity toward us). It also marginalises the US role in any future diplomatic initiatives and solutions.
