SNP want to keep the £ and independence.

Selective independence or Salmond having his cake and scoffing it?

The Scottish government has stated that in the event of independence it would seek to retain sterling as part of a formal currency union.

"Similarly, in a monetary union between an independent Scotland and the rest of the UK the two parliaments would have to agree on whether fiscal rules were sufficient or whether similar risk-sharing mechanisms were necessary.

"Risk sharing mechanisms" - Does that mean the Royal Bank of Scotland pay's back the £40 Billion pound owed to the British tax payer before independence?

They will have to have the Euro as there currency , any new member state of the E.U. HAS to have the euro as its currency, otherwise they cannot join the E.U.
Scotland will have to apply to join the E.U. as a new member if it leaves the U.K. and one of E.U.s conditions of acceptance into the E.U. is to have the Euro as its currency

What a load of tosh from the usual clowns. Scotland is already a member of the EU. The dissolution of the act of union would leave england in the same position as Scotland.

You should be careful what you wish for, excluding Scotland from the pound will remove the current backing of the value of oil reserves. It and the rUK would sink like a stone.

No, The U.K is part of the E.U.
If Scotland leaves the U.K. Scotland will no longer be part of the U.K. and also Scotland wont be a part of the E.U . so Scotland would have to apply for membership of the E.U. and a requirement of being a member is to have the Euro as its currency

It isn't a requirement of being an EU member to adopt the Euro as currency.

That is why the UK can be in the EU and retain Sterling.

The EU will not allow Scotland to join, Too many regions in Europe watching closely.
That's why Scotland needs the GBP.
I also think you have to have had your own currency for two years prior to membership, like the Baltic States ?

I believe it would be wiser for the good Scots to sack the bladdy EU and re-associated themselves with their UK brethren.

North sea oil reserves will pail into insignificance when the Royal bank of Scotland has to pay back it's debt's
Also when the ordinary Scottish resident realises they will have to pay university fees, prescription charges, old age care, lose money on the euro etc etc they will vote no!

So where does that leave the "Braveheart" SNP?

Looking back, this one made me laugh as the RBS announced at the end of last week that they would move their registered office to London in the event of a yes vote.

They have no choice if they want to do business in the EU.

I love that Salmond is banging on about Downing Street have "ordered" all these statements from Banks.

I didn't know they had that power over Deutsche Bank and JP Morgan.

This is another example of the level of sweat stupidity.

The United Kingdom entered the European Union. Not Scotland, not England, not Wales, not Northern Ireland but the United Kingdom.

If Scotland secedes from the UK and forms a new country then it is that country that will have to apply for EU membership. The fact Scotland secedes does not alter the constitutional fact that the UK joined the EU and it's membership will not be suspended because a component part of it broke away.

Despite what sweats think in their idiocy, there is no such state as England and it certainly won't be created simply because the sweats leave the Union.

Frankly, the level of debate offered by the sweats suggests strongly that the referendum should have been national in the first place. Scots seem to be too thick to grasp even the most basic of issues.

^it doesn't work like that I'm afraid, little bruv. Even without Scotland, Great Britain will still be Great. Scotland a new will be needing to apply for EU membership; you'll probably get junior membership to start with just like Romania and Bulgaria.

The English girls demonstrate that the phrase 'hell hath no fury like a woman scorned' is true. There are several European organisations Scotland can join, if there's still plenty of oil and gas left, they might want to go the way of Norway. Out of the EU, independent currency, nationalisation of the oil and its exploitation by a state-owned company, not merely taxation.

It isnt England who says that Scotland must apply for E.U. membership , its the E.U. rules .
I am not sure why you are being critical of England is not doing anything to stop Scotland leaving , most English people are in favour of Scotland going their own way and support their independence .

Scottish independence plans dismissed as a 'work of fiction' as Alex Salmond insists he wants to keep the pound, the Queen and CBeebies

Alex Salmond was accused of producing a ‘fantasy’ manifesto last night as he tried to shore up faltering public support for his dream of Scottish independence.

^I'm not sure it's that easy Ghosty; Britain had enough power to bargain away and get some concessions. I don't think Germany and France want to give out easy concessions nowadays.

    It's not clear at all.

    ^^ Nope
What it wants is to be a republic like Eire (Southern Ireland) Could still retain the Queen as head of state as Australia New Zealand and Canada.

As a new Nation it would have to apply for membership to the EU. Scotland going its own way would be a complex and very expensive way for both countries. Armed services, Military installations, residency, passports border requirements etc. My god the civil service would be in heaven!

As to wealth I believe that 80% of UK wealth is generated by the 1sq mile of the financial district within the city of London. Scotland independence will be a pain in the arse for all, but then if they want to go that road good luck to them.
