    Rebulican Party Turns on itself

A good bit of political infighting should disable the Rebulican Party for the next 7 years or so. So says mad_dog

The conservatives have got very hot under the collar for Fred Thompson a "Reagan like" (dear God) B movie actor. I don't think he is an evangelical but being on the T.V and coming from Alabama may get him the Religious Right vote.

Still don't think the Rebulicans are going to be at all plausible for the next 7 years though.
They champion falsehood, support the butcher against the victim, the oppressor against the innocent child. May God mete them the punishment they deserve

We'll just have to wait and see, but I really don't give the GOP much hope in the next Presidential elections given the quagmire of Iraq & them having lost control of both Houses.
Actually, as long as they've purged themselves of the neo-con element, don't think it really matters who gets in next time.

a tv actor and a 'lifelong' hunter is the best they can come up with? and for you to refer to it as a 'dream ticket' reveals your desperation.

in case you didn't read it on newsmax boonie, romney was pandering to the gun nuts a couple of weeks ago, and claimed to be a 'lifelong hunter'. soon after, his aides clarified that he had been hunting twice in his life....once when he was teenager, and then last year.....but now he's claiming that he's been hunting waskily wabbits for years.

oh, and btw....he's never had a hunting license.

Some of the PNAC and Neo-Con members with the power are gone. (they were bureaucrats.)

Wolfawitz is at the World Bank.

John Bolton is at the AEI

Doug Feith is teaching at Georgetown U.

    Rich Armitage retired.

Francis Fukiyama has pulled a 180.

Fareed Zakaria (journalist) still writes, but isn't in government.

I assume that if the Ds get in next election in the Executive, they will purge the PNAC members and Neocons.

The power of the Neocons was that they were in very high, high, lever bureaucratic positions at DoD, State, NSC, DIA, and other government bureaucracies.

Nonetheless, I think the big spending, Neo-con GOP should pay for this. I won't vote GOP for decades if ever.

Actually, I've been voting Libertarian since 1996, already.

For a non American like me the Democrat/Rebulican thing leaves me pretty cold. Both have the same baisc America first, imperialist belicose outlook. Its the same in England two main parties and no real difference between them

There is a night and day difference amongst the current Republican / Democrats in the current US Administration.

That warrants another green alas I've got to spread it around first. Who have I forgotten to red recently?

Yes, two sides of the same small coin in the US, remember both parties supported the Iraq invasion, for example, and get sponsored by more or less the same corporations. Democracy my arse.

It isn't much better in Europe either, particulary the UK, where so-called "left" Labour has taken on fascist characteristics, and the skewed majority voting system prevents new parties from gaining a foothold - same as their atlantic cousins.

I mean in the broad outlook of their foreign policy. Internal issues such as health care don't interest me in the least.

    They dissolved in 1998.
A fascinating episode of post-war history.
I didn't approve of the violence and sectarianism, but was on the periphery. I used to know the folks who helped Astrid Proll escape to the UK. One of them has become a prof at Lancaster university.

They almost killed Alexander Haig but his driver drove too fast on the day of the roadside bombing. I have sypathy with that kind of action but the RAF degenerated into a pointless spate of civilain killings and common crime .. a bit like the Abu Sayyaf group in the Phillipines.

Romney can't win. Nobody would vote for a Mormon. It was hard enough for a Catholic to win the vote decades ago.

It's a fucking shame that once again the public gets to choose between one useless candidate or another. Since 1992 the choices have been horrible.

There are more Catholics than Mormons.

At this point neither McCain nor Romney canwin. McCain is a has-been fossil from a long ago era and Romney is largely unknown outside of MA.

Its funny how the two most likely to run two years aho: Mc Cain and Rudy (can't spell his last name) are now barely serious contenders and Conde doesn't even get a mention.
